Fuel gauge dont work 1984 ford ranger - 1984 Ford Ranger

Replace the butterfly inside of the carb.

It may be the thermostat is stuck in the open position. If you sit still does it warm up at all. If it gets warm sitting still then cools up when you start moving It could be the thermostat.

No iam not a ford ranger specialist iam a general mechanic often refered to as ,well dont go their but from description you have a leak on either the supply or the return fuel pipe so its on with the overhauls and get under and look for the leak ,now some pipes where they connect to a flexible pipe have a special connection but this is not insurmountable ,fit a metal insert into the plastic pipe and then fit a new rubber piece with 2 clips as most fuel systems use about 35psi ,Now as for the fuel gauge this is a bit more complicated as it could ba fault either with the gauge or the sensor in the tank ,now what you do is to locate the unit in the tank which normally you access under the back seat then as its a combined pump fuel gauge unit ,The big heavier cables will be the pump and the other two thin wires are the gauge sensor well join the two thin one together and if the gauge goes to max you need a new sensor in the tank if it doesnt go over then its a fault in the gauge end ,

The 1986 Ranger V-6 was a 2.8L 170.4 cu or 2792 cc.
The carb for this engine was a 2 BBL Model 2150, E37E-AEA (Will not cross except for re-build kits!)
The Holley remanufactured PN is 645544

The float on the fuel gauge sending unit inside the tank is either stuck down or has come off, common problem.

Hi. Your inline fuel filter is a molded plastic mesh type, designed to protect the electrical fuel boost pump from contamination. It is located on the left hand side frame rail about 2 feet away from the rear of the fuel boost pump.

Start on the inside and work your way out.

Yes, Look on the inside pass firewall about 12 inches up from the floor and about 18 inches from the door.

the number one most common cause of this is the fuel gauge sending unit inside the gas tank is defective, remove the gas tank and replace it.
