This is a picture of the DM Board in your TV. The wavy lines are tell tale signs of a failed capacitor. The capacitors are the cylindrical components on the board. One or more of them have failed. There is also a FMT Board with capacitors that could be causing this also so test them all. The DM board alone is 1000 bucks so it would be well worth it to invest in 50 bucks worth of capacitors and change them all out. Your boards would be fresh and good for another 4 years.
Your other option is to call a TV repair man and he would come pick up your boards and bring them back to his shop and test out the bad 3 dollar capacitor and swap it out and hand you a bill for 500 bucks.
Hope this helps you out.

Normally a wavy picture or lines/bars that roll up or down are caused by defective capacitors in the power supply. This defect allows 60 cycle hum to progress through the signal paths and will show up that way. These "bad caps" can often recover sufficiently so it looks like everything works OK. This should not be an expensive repair. If you can solder, you should be able to repair this yourself. Let us know and additional details can be posted.

By the way, there is no "reset" that will fix this problem. This is definately one or more defective parts inside the set.

    Try the system reset

Press the SYSTEM RESET button on the front panel with a pointed item such as the point of a ball point pen or end tip of a paperclip.
The TV will turn off and the green led will flash quickly for about one minute. When the green led stops flashing, you may turn on the TV again. The changes you made while the TV was most recently on, before you used the SYSTEM RESET button may lost, however, the changes you made previously are not lost. Only those changes since the last power On may be lost when the system reset button is pressed. All other settings are retained.

what about the picture in PIP? is it fine or does that also show the same problem?

  • dewan nafees ahmed Jul 16, 2008

you dint reply my question? is PIP ok or you get waves even in that?

  • dewan nafees ahmed Jul 17, 2008

Bad hyper board =bad caps on board need replacement

You have problems with your power supply filters. I'd suggest you to
change the main filter, that is the capacitor just after the ac
rectifier and the b+ filter, that is the capacitor at the output of the
smps, and then vertical filter and video filter. These are all
capacitors with higher micro farad ratings, if you are not much
comfortable, it's better to get some help from someone who is familiar
with these. Pay attention not to reverse the polarity when changing the
    capacitors.

both the chroma and the luma circuits pass signal through the same tuner - through the PIP - and onto the large signal board.
so if capacitors dont help the problem to get solved then only the tuner replacement can help you i think.

    thank you

Mitsubishi WS-55613 55 in. rear projection HDTV has no picture but does give blue screen and menus. What is the problem and how can i fix it

The set has three hidden menus, one of which is the option menu--with the Mitsubishi remote and a four digit code in that you can do a hard reset of the entire set---if a glitch has occurred I have seen this fix no sound, bad video, missing inputs, you name it.

It cannot hurt and may help and it is model specific as far as the 4 digit code.

Model # ws-55613, a short time after the tv turns on there are wavy vertical lines that wont go away. if i turn off the tv and restart it will work for a short time and wavy lines will reappear.

The WS Mitsubishi has a known problem with the Power Supply electrolytic capacitors and the electrolytic caps on the DM board. See my tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r7065906-mitsubishi_turn_flashing_power_timer for more detailed information. The problem you are describing would be the first part of the known problem. There are several repair/replacement choices listed in my tip.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating.

If your TV looks 3D, warped, or distorted it likely has a convergenge problem.
If however it just looks dull, washed out, redish, or if it looks like objects on the screen have halos the fluid in the lens has soured.
You can search google for parts or you can get the parts with repair instructions from sites such as www.TvRepairKits.com

Mitsubishi Medallion - The green convergence

The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get a convergenece repair kit with instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2
Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

You can see some more examples and find a fix herebb0cf99.pnghttp://www.fixya.com/support/r2861467-solution_video_looking_whiteish_dull
