Question about Whirlpool Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

I have a Whirlpool Gold Sensor microwave. It is two years old but has not been used very much. I do not have a booklet on it so no information on what to do. It will start and the turn table will spin but that's it. Nothing warms up or cooks. I have unplugged it left it for a while and plugged it in again - but nothing. Can you help?

Whirlpool customer service is here and you can also enter your model number on that page to download your owner's manual, installation instructions, etc..

Generally, the most common causes of a failure to heat are:

- bad door switches or door switch mounts
- loose connection at the magnetron
- problem or loose connection on the control unit circuit board
- bad magnetron or other high voltage part (such as a shorted diode)

Since your turntable is turning, I'd say the problem is in the high voltage section, but it would help me narrow it down if you could reply back with your model number.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical safety information, info on door switch diagnosis and replacement, and disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

We're happy to help you and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Whirlpool Gold Accuwave wont heat

Hi, there are three issues that will cause a no heat situation in a microwave. these issue are a failed Magnetron, busted cut-off fuse and, failed diode.

I recommend checking all these area that are located inside the microwave for faults.

The most common issue will be a failed Magnetron.

The diode and, fuse will be located on the noise filter assembly.

Humming sound when off

I also have the same microwave model and with the same problem. It is not quite 2 years old. I have a service call scheduled but did e-mail customer service at Whirlpool to inform them of this. Sounds like it could be defective model and a fire hazard. You should also inform them of yours.
