Rival crock pot

Is the outside of the crock pot supposed to be so hot you cannot touch it?

My crock pot gets so hot it will easily burn your hand even if you just barely touch it. I am afraid it is going to burn down my house if I leave for the 4 hour cooking time so I just stay home!! It is scary.

Yes, it's not unusual for the outside to be too hot to touch. A slow cooker won't get as hot as a bare burner on the stove, but it still gets hot enough to cook meat. The outside has a bit of insulation, but it still may get hot enough to cause pain, melt a bread bag, etc. Be sure and place it where no one will accidentally touch it.

Now the disclaimer... if you believe that your crock pot is overheating or is unsafe to use, then you should have it checked by a qualified service tech or replace it.

My Rival model 3100 gets so hot on the outside it burns me. This is a very old crock pot with the bread and cake bake pan, etc....should I throw it away and get a new one? I really love it and have

Please don't throw it away. This should NOT end up in a landfill.
DO check your city's recycling programs and get rid of it that way.
DO buy a nice new shiny slow cooker. Loads of them on Amazon with helpful reviews. Good luck!

Hi. The heating element is located on the in side / sides of your **** pot base in a circular element. That is normal.

Good and bad complaints.

Generally, they are all supposed to be good. It all depends on how we use them. You have undoubtedly been careful with your crock pot to have had it serve you for 30 years! Unfortunately, not all consumers are as careful as you.

Yes, there are instance when a particular line or batch may be faulty due to some manufacturing defects, but these show up immediately, and can always be replaced under warranty.

Don't go by complaints, etc you see on the net. These are the exceptions rather than the rule. That is the nature of ALL electronic/electrical goods - they are bound to fail at some time or the other. (That why we have sites like Fixya!) :) The complaints that you see are exactly that - complaints from a few people who either happened to get a defective product, or haven't used it carefully. The majority, however, are happy with their products :)

Hope that helped!

Outside of Crock Pot Extremely Hot....Is This Normal?

This is not normal. Thermal switch is not functioning correctly. Wiring inside not easy to replace. Crock pots cause a lot of home fires. Cheaper to simply buy a new one.
