Question about GE Spacemaker JVM1640SJ Microwave Oven
While cooking after 10 min fan starts working and keeps blowing for quite some time. Seems like it's trying to cool overheated oven (microwave), but it isn't hot. This wasn't happening before. I suspect that some kind of sensor is at fault. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. We have GE Profile Spacemaker oven which is 3 years old.
Normally the exhaust / vent / hood fan will come on automatically if the stove top or the bottom plate of the microwave gets too hot.
Also, there may be some settings for the auto-fan that can work like this.
Consult your manual. If you don't have it, you can download GE owner's manuals and installation instructions here.
Otherwise, the hood fan thermostat may be failing. It should be normally open when you do a continuity check.
If you or someone you know wants to look into this, we have critical safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa.
We even have a video on our site that shows you how to safely & easily remove the control panel assembly in less than 5 minutes so you can check out your oven.
You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.
There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.
We're happy to help you and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.
