Get down by the front passenger tire wheel well. Have a friend turn the key on but don't start it. Have them activate the washer spray toggle. If you don't hear the washer motor it's not working. Check the fuse first. They recommend going from a 10 to a 15 amp fuse. GM bulletin so I heard. To replace the washer pump go through the wheel well on an 06 Impala. A flat screwdriver helps you pop 2-3 of the push plugs that attach the dust cover. That should give you enough room for your hands. The pump is right behind the dust screen on the front edge of the tire, at the bottom of the washer fluid reservoir. Advance auto and Auto zone pumps are too short. I made one work by putting in the new rubber grommet, and keeping the old one on the tube that goes down in the reservoir. That jacks it up enough to have the top plastic stalk snap into a groove on the reservoir. You might need to put a couple wraps of electrical tape on the top plastic tube that just snaps in. The after market had a slightly smaller diameter. Tape it if necessary so it holds it firmly in place. Have the assistant run it with fluid in and make sure you don't have a leak.
While the washer is activated check the voltage on the washer motor fitted on to the washer tank. If there is voltage then the motor is fault and needs to be replaced. If there is no voltage trace the lead for any break in circuit. Normally the fuse is common to both the washer and wiper.
