Question about Dell Latitude D510 Notebook
When I turn on the machine the lights come on like it is going to start and shuts off. this happens whether it is battery or plugged in. Would this be a motherboard issue? What would you advise?
Mine did this too. I removed the hard drive, attempted to start up and got to the setup window. Shut it down, putt the hard drive back in and all is well! Reseating the hd seemed to do it.

First try starting without the battery, just AC. Still nothing, then try removing the memory and placing one or the other chip in and starting, then change out chips. Both the battery and memory are common causes of a no start with Dell machines. If neither of these work, then it's a problem with the motherboard. Take it in for diagnosis, they will be able to tell you exactly where the problem is and if it's a replaceable component.
