Question about Whirlpool 24 in. ADP5740 Free-standing Dishwasher

Whirlpool adp 5540 dishwasher

Hi
my dishwasher has got me stumped, it will fill with water, water gets hot. it will drain properly, but it will not push water around the inside, i have taken out the pump (larger one) and taken apert the impellor housing and found that the impellor was loose on the magnetic shaft, i found this to be a sealed unit with no access to get the impellor itself out and figured that this was the cause of the water not circulating, due to free spinning on the shaft. i drilled a hole in the end of the impellor and filled it with locktite glue which held the impellor in place properly as i felt resistance when i put the magnetic end back into the coil housing, but again no luck, it will fill to the required amount, the heater is working it will go through the cycle but no water pushing through any of the jets. (they have been cleaned and are not blocked) even without the arms connected still very little water coming out with no pressure. when i pulled the motor out is was hot, so i can only assume it its tying to work by powering up, i put the test meter on ohms and was showing resistance, so can only assume the windings are intact.
i have had very little satisfaction with whirlpool as they don't sell spare pasrts to the public, i got onto one person who will sell me a motor but costs $210aus with no guarantee that is the problem it is doing my head in, i don't like failures when fixing things and would hate to think it is something else simple, maybe even something to do with the control panel on the front for all i know, i don't want to throw it out as it is only purchased 4-5 years ago and would like to think i would get a bit more use out of it than what i have. any help would be appreciated.

thanks

Billy

Dishwasher slowly fills after cycle

If water slowly fills in the tub when not in use.

a) Most likely your machine inlet water valve not seating properly and closing. Change the machine water valve.

b) May be sink drain water back flowing to the tub. But you have checked that.

So it has to be the machine inlet water valve.

Whirlpool dishwasher doesn't clean very well

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. First of all please check the Water temperature by using a thermometer inside the dishwasher to measure the water temp. It should be as close to 125 degree F to 140 degree F as possible. Now try using the temperature boost feature if your dishwasher is equipped with this cycle feature and check if this will help your wash ability issues.

Now check the Powder soap by making sure that you store your soap in a dry environment and it is not stale and clumping together. Possibly try a different detergent like a liquid or gel. Also, make sure the dishes are loaded properly, or dishwasher is not overloaded.

To check the proper filling dishwasher will fill with water up to and around the heating element. If water is more below the heating element, you may have low water pressure or a problem with the fill valve. Try & listen if it sounds like it is spraying the water around with enough pressure.
For low water pressure, try to clean the screen at the entrance of the fill valve, sometimes the fill valve can fail and not allow the proper water into the dishwasher and may need to be replaced. And, check the spray arm and pump cover for splits or leaks. Also make sure that the water is draining and is not accumulated in the dishwasher, if it is in dishwasher then check for clogged drain hoses and drain pump.

Low water fills are a very common trouble maker with today's dishwasher.

Please do rate this solution and revert for further assistance.

Thanks

Rylee

Dishwashwer not cleaning properly

You can try one of the cleaners sold for this purpose like glisten, dishwasher magic or jetdry dishwasher cleaner. It may not be getting enough water due to the fill valve clogging up. You can check this by small amounts of water slowly with a cup in the wash cycle and quickly opening the door to see if the upper sprayarm is turning. If more water helps you need to replace the valve.
