I have a single shot 20 ga.and the stalk is broke can i get replacement stalk and four arm

Tom,
Sounds like a nice project to repair and pass along to grand kids. You will likely need to provide some pictures if you want to identify it or take it by a knowledgeable gunsmith or collector. replacement "stocks" and forearms are available. A good craftsman could even fabricate replacements from scratch. Good luck.

You didn\'t state what make, or type (pistol, revolver, rifle or shotgun) of H&R you have, so I can only give generalizations.

As a general rule, centerfire rifle\'s and handgun\'s firing pin protrusion usually measure between .050" and .060".

Shotguns are a little longer at .055" to .065".

Rimfire guns usually fall into the .028" to .035" range.

Once you have established that the firing pin protrusion is within an acceptable range, you can get a rough idea of hammer spring strength by looking at the primer on some fired rounds for how deep and pronounced the indent is.

Also, you mentioned that some brand(s) of ammo fired more reliably than others.

Some ammo requires a harder "hit" from the firing pin to ignite the primer.

This has to do with factors such as the alloy composition of the primer "cup" (some are harder than others, requiring a harder "hit"), some primer compounds are more sensitive than others, etc.

So maybe experiment with different brands and see which ammo works best for you.
