Check the configuration of your system, it probably supports 128 MB of RAM at max.

I have a Packard Bell desk top PC In 2006 I Installed windows vista I noticed I needed a 512 ram as I had 256.I bought a 512 ram I knew were to install It ,I took the 256 ram out and carefully put In...

You put in the wrong type of memory. Put the old 256 back in the computer should power on with no beep code(or all good beep). If this is correct make sure to obtain the same type of memory as the 256. Also both slots must have the same RAM. You cannot have a 128 with a 512. They should both be either 128 or 512.
If you are using Vista you should have a minimum of 1g RAM.

I need to know more about a Gateway Performance 800 motherboard. I added a second 128 meg SDRAM 100 Mhz simm in bank 1 (the board came with a simm in bank 0). The BIOS recognizes the original simm as 128...

Check the specs for your new ram. It sounds like you have double density ram installed. If your motherboard only supports single density it will only see 1/2 of the modual hence 64meg showing for 128 stick.

Please rate this solution if it has helped you.
Thanks, Gary

I incerased the ram from 128 to 256 but it still

Dude!

It seems that video card on the computer is consuming the rest of 64 MB memory.

Get into the CMOS of the computer and reduce the video card memory.

Hope, it helps.

Pc freezes when new memory installed

You problem is the motherboard. On your PCs mother board the 128MB that came with the motherboard might be the highest memory the chipset on your motherboard can accommodate. The chipset is built in and you cannot change or upgrade it. You can speed up the PC with how many memo sticks you added, if the chipset can handle. So it look like if you want a fast PC you need to get a new motherboard chipset with higher memory clock frequency.
Here's the pic of the chipset on the motherboard(square type)

What are the ram limits on a compaq presario 5000a. I put 256 ram in the compaq and it only reads 128. Why?

You can install up to 3 sticks of 512 mb of memory. Did you add a 256 stick to the already-existing 128? You need to put DDR266/PC2100 memory. To troubleshoot, remove the 128 stick and put your 256 in and see if it is recognized. You will know right away from the bios screen. Memory needs to be the same type.

Compaq Presario 5352 memory installation recognizing

be sure that the memory u got is compatible in your presario 5352. I tell you that adding 512mb to current 64 mb maybe a problem. you should remove the 64mb and replace it by 512mb and be sure that the new memory is compatible. want more information about your presario go to www.hp.com then search "compaq presario 5352"
