Hi there,
This cybeshot DSC-S500 doesn't have onboard speaker so you cant hear voice/ sound in playback. Transfer movie file on PC n enjoy.

I cant hear sound from my vivtar video?

The ViviCam was designed primarily as a still camera, with some video features grafted on. Audio was not one of the grafted features. You can add a soundtrack using video-editing software on a computer, but you cannot record one using the camera.

I realize this wasn't the answer you were hoping to see, but there it is.

I can take a video but it will always be silent. i have tried everything i can think of to turn the audio on but i cant do it.... i really want to take videos and be able to hear ppl voices

Sounds like a internal microphone issue in this case you will need a camera shop to have a look locally, But if your sure all the settings are correct nothing is muted then the problem is the internal microphone assembly inside. Let me know ether way.

Thanks for using fixya.com

Sound

From the manual:
"To hear audio, transfer the video to your computer."

The camera doesn't play the audio, though it records it. You need to transfer the video to a computer in order to hear it.

Can't hear audio on video playback (neither direct from camera nor from pc)

This is because the camera is not capable to record the sound. The camera was not designed with any audio speakers to be able to record and playback sound recorded during movie mode.

Cant hear my sound on my laptop

You have just about answered your own problem. If you can hear sound on other computers and also on TV, then the camera is sending out sound. You should be downloading the video to your laptop with a USB cable. Make sure that you use the same cable on your laptop that you used to download on other computers. In the worst case you could get a card reader with USB and remove your memory chip from the camera and load it into the Card reader. That should solve the sound loss. I have also seen a laptop that would make sound when windows opened up but would not play a music CD. You might want to test your laptop with a music cd before you buy anything!
