Updating audio drivers
one of the options below to locate the available audio drivers if you
already changed the operating system and you are experiencing sound
Go to the
HP Drivers and Downloads
page and search for updated drivers for your model. Be sure to select the correct operating system.
Or download Conexant High-Definition Audio Driver » ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp40501-41000/sp40762.exe
If the computer is upgraded to Vista, use
to scan for updated drivers. To use HP Update, click
, and then follow the on-screen instructions.
HP has not released specific audio drivers for your operating system,
use the Microsoft Windows Update utility, or search the Microsoft web
site for generic drivers for Vista. To use Windows Update, click Start
into the search field, select
from the list when it becomes available, click
Check for updates
, and then install any available updates.
This is possible but will take some patience.
Install Windows XP & Service Pack 2
Then check what drivers are NOT installed by going to device manager.
Then go the the Compaq page that lists the drivers for Vista:
Make a note of the name/model of these drivers and search for the XP equivelent usually by visitng the device manufacturers website.
Im sorry this is complicated and long winded but its the only way.
