Brush Roll belt won't engage on WindTunnel self-propelled

I replaced both the flat belt and V-belt on a WindTunnel U6429-900. Brush roll is in good shape and clean, but won't turn. The end sof the Brush Roll are solid and fit snug into their channels on the body The Brush Roll On/Off selector on the front won't slide all the way to "Carpet". When I flip the vac over and peer in with a flashlight I see that the selector bar not sliding all the way to "Carpet" setting, doesn't allow the brush roll V-belt to engage. Also (don't know if this is related), when I slide the "Carpet Height" selector from High to Low, it slides the Brush Roll selector bar to "Hard" surface setting too.Seems like the selector sllides might be jammed up. Any help appreciated!

My spring loaded black wheel won't engage the brush due to broken or jammed slide bar. How do I get the top cover to access the slide bars and the spring loaded roller?

When you had the brush roll off, did the ends turn freely? If not then the brush won't turn and the belt will just slip. You would have to replace the brush roll if either of the ends are frozen. Other then that you would have to remove the top cover to see if there any broken parts, there is a spring loaded asm, it has a black wheel that will push the V belt when it is in the carpet setting and the handle is in the down position, it could be jammed so the roller is stuck.

Is it necessary to take the vacuum cleaner apart to change the belt on a Hoover Wind Tunnel Self Propelled vacuum cleaner, model UI6460-900? If so, how is that done? If not, how do you get the belt on...

To change the belts, make sure the vacuum is not plugged in. Lay it upside down and remove the screws holding the bottom plate on. Remove the bottom plate, pull the brush roll out noting how the belt goes so you will know how to put it back together. Especially how it goes around the idler pulley. Remove both belts, replace both belts, install the V belt onto the transmission first then around the brush roll and put the brush roll in place. Install the flat belt around the motor shaft and then onto the transmission pulley.

When you put the flat belt on, is the print on the outside of the belt? Is the brush correctly positioned?

Vacuum is not self-propelling and no suction

Replace your rubber belt, it is what powers the self-propel mechanism.
Remove the 4 screws from the baseplate and replace the belt at the rear of the machine.

Belts

It is the flat belt that gets stretched and should be replaced at least every 6 months. The V belt wears down so it won't it right in the brush roll V. Maybe the belt tensioner wheel has a problem, sometimes they get hook up and won't engage the V belt. Check the brush roll also, if where the V belt rides in is covered up with belt, replace it. There is no adjustment, doesn't need it if everything is working the way it should.

Hoover wind tunnel upright self propelled. U6473-900. Brush does not work. Heard it was a 'brush controller' problem and can be fixed. Please tell me how.

Most likely the flat belt has stretched enough so as to not turn the pulley that in turn turns the brush roll using a V belt. Also there is a small idler wheel, if hook up, then it won't engage the V belt.

Windtunnel self-propelled feature broken

If it is a rubber smell, then it could be belts and/or brush roll. If it is an electrical smell, then it could be the motor. Take the belts off and see if it still makes that noise, if it does, then the motor is going bad.

U6439-900 Self Propell on/off switch

Check the cable to see if it is broke either in the handle or down below, you can see it from the top . If it isn't broke, the part that the cable hooks to (actuator)may be broke. Could be the flat belt, they stretch after awhile and will just slip and drive the transmission or brush roll under load.

Brush roll wont turn

Might be that the the idler wheel is stuck and not engaging the V belt. If you look down just past the V belt you will see a black roller, it needs to be against the belt. It is either stuck or the asm. is broken.

Hoover wind tunnel vac

If the belt is getting hot, then it is slipping instead of turning the brush roll. Check thge brush roll, make sure the ends are turning freely. Is the motor running ok? If it is then either the brush roll is bad, need a new belt, or something is catching the belt, not letting it move.

Hoover windtunnel Self-propelled - brush roll stops

There is a idler wheel that will drive the V belt, sometimes they jam and you just have to reach in, push and make sure if comes in contact with the belt. Alot of times tho it is the other flat belt, 38528035 that will stretch and can cause you to have problems with the brush roll not turning.
