I have a Dell desktop and a Dell Laptop Inspiron E1705 both run Windows XP Home. My internet connection is Comcast cable. The Desktop runs of the comcast modem and for the laptop I have a comcast router (made by Netgear). Everything works fine. I recently bought a refurbished Dell Laptop Latitude D 620 running Windows XP Professional. I tried to connect it to the existing network with the wizzard but I get an error message "see article 871122. The internet connection diagnostics tell me Windows is not currently managing your wireless network..... Tho Log says Wireless service disabled. What can I do? How do I enable Wireless Service?

I don't think the first expert read my question. I have good internet connection my riutar is working but I have trouble with the new computer as described.

  • Anonymous Jan 21, 2011

I downloaded the help article and followed the instructions.

Already on page two I find a difference, my computer says:

    C:\WINDOWS\systen32\cmd.exe

    SERVICE_NAME: wzcsvc

    TYPE : 20 WIN32_SHARE_SHARE

    STATE : 1 STOPPED

    (NOT_STOPPLABLE,NOT_PAUSABLE,IGNORES_SHUTDOWN)

  • Anonymous Jan 22, 2011

I tried everything from page 11 down. It still does not work.

In the Control Panel for Network Connections I have two icons:

    Local Area Connection

    Disabled

    Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller

    Wireless Network Connection

Acquiring network address (after a while this changes to "not connected")

    Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN Mini-Card

In the taskbar a little computer is trying to connect and the signal organ pipes show a strong signal.

Also, if it helps, when I connect the computer by cable directly to the modem I can get into the internet without a problem.

  • Anonymous Jan 22, 2011

OK, I reversed the steps to Automatic instead of Disabled. When I start all over again from page 1, I get to page 7

    c:\windows\system\cmd.exe, where it says STATE, I get " : 1stopped" instead of " : 4 running"

I am back to square one.

I tried again to set up a new network, to no avail.

If it helps, on my other Laptop which is functioning perfectly, the internet wireless connection reads:

    Wireless Network connection

    Connected, Firewalled

    Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN Mini-Card

    1394 Connection

    Connected, Firewalled

    1394 Net Adapter

    Local Area Connection

    Network Cable unplugged, Firewalled

    Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller

    Do you want to continue?

I have a Dell Desktop and a Dell Inspiron Laptop E1705, both work on Windows XP Home. The desktop has a Comcast connection via Comcast Modem. The laptop works on a wireless network with a Comcast router (made by Netgear).Everything works fine. I recently baught a refurbished Dell Latitude D 620 laptop running Windows XP Professional. I cannot get an internet connection via the wireless network. The little computer symbol in the taskbar shows it's trying to connect with the little yellow ball jumping back and forth. The organpipes next to it show a strong green signal, yet I cannot get a connection. However, if I connect the new Latitude directly via cable to the modem I can get into the internet without a problem.
    What can I do?

When I go to the laptop and right klick on the wireless ikon I only get this message:

"Windows cannot configure thi wireless connection.

If you have enabled another program to mannage this wireless connection, use that one.

If you want Windows to configure this wireless connection, start the Wireless Zero Configuration (WZC) service. For information about starting the WZC service, see article 871122 in the Microsoft Knowledge Base on the microsoft.com Web site"

I have done that but this article is too voluminous and I did not get anywhere.

Hello
I have a older dell laptop with xp and a wireless card.I had the same problem.

What you need to do is.
1- On your other pc, log into the router by opening internet explorer and typing in 192.168.1.1 in the address bar.Hit enter.
username =admin
password = password or admin.

2-Once in the routers page find the wep key in the wireless page, write this key down.
Make sure wireless is enabled.Log out of router.

3-Now start your laptop, once started right click on the nework icon in the lower righthand side.Scroll down to view available wireless networks.Find your network and highlight, click connect.

4-Now you will need to enter the wep or security key in the boxes, this is the key you wrote down earlier. Then click connect.

Now windows is managing your connection, once your connected update xp to service pack 3 and install all latest security updates from windows update.

Here is a link too microsoft on this procedure.

Left hand side should be a list of options.

Find wireless options, or possibly look under router security area.

Dell laptop will have a dell wireless application that will be controlling the wireless adaptor.
You can open that from Start - Programs (or all programs) - Dell - Dell wireless utility (or in some case intel proset utility). open that and you can use it to connect to your wireless network or you can disable it and allow windows to manage the wireless adapter.

If you have any issues in doing the same please reply to this post.

Thank you for contacting Fixya.

  • Anonymous Jan 23, 2011

Thats exactly right, the Dell wireless utility is still not configured (this is a software on top of the driver ) installed in almost all the dell computers (factory installed)

Please check if you have such an utility and use that instead of windows zero configuration utility

For that you need to enable wireless on router. Follow below. Connect your router to computer with ethernet cable then you can access it with following default link. http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.15.1 or http://192.168.2.1 If you are not able to access it with above ip then check your computers ip address gateway ip is your router ip try with it. Then it ask for user name and password. Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or blank. Then you can see configuration page of router. If you are still not able to access router with above ip then you need to RESET it for that press RESET button for 10 seconds it is in back side of router then all settings defaults..Then you can access it with above method. . Click on wireless turn on wireless then save settings and restart router. Then click on wireless->wireless security->WEP security there is code password note down it or enter new password then save setting s and restart router. then you can connect wireless with new password. Let me know if you need further assistance. Thanks for using FixYa.

There are several ways and commands to enable the Wireless Service. First of all, please follow the recommended instructions mentioned by Microsoft [Click Here].
If there is not hardware or driver issue with the Wireless Card, performing the instructions mentioned in that thread will definitely fix your issue. The post has several illustrated screenshots for easy reference.
If you need further help, please let me know.

Good Luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

If you need the pdf document, you can download the same document I've linked here [Click Here].

Once you click the link, the document will open up in your browser, click "File" just below the "Google Docs" logo and click "Download Original" to save the file on your computer.

Great, proceed forward. It states that the service is disabled, should be "STATE : 4 RUNNING". Also go to Page 11 and perform the procedure mentioned there. That will enable that service. I would also recommend you to perform all the steps mentioned including the Driver Installation. Good Luck.

Ok, it seems the wireless network wasn't setup properly. Please refer to the Page 11 of the first tutorial and reverse the steps, means set "Automatic" where you set "Disabled". You'll need to restart your computer once. Now repeat the steps in Page No.1.

    Still no luck?

Delete the Wireless network connection and set up a new one. Please follow the exact instructions mentioned in your router's manual. You can also refer to this document.

Click Here...(steps might be different if your router is different)

    Good Luck.

Welcome to fixya
I have a solution for this, Please follow up with me if you need more information. Content
Here are the recommended steps to connect to a wireless base router 1. Check and remove power from both your router and the DSL ROUTER/CABLE ROUTER MODEM 2. Wait one complete minute until applying power to modem then wait one minute before applying power to wireless router. 3. Ensure you have green lights across both devices, specifically, the recieved and sent lights. These same lights will tend to blink rapidly when there is active data, at times this will still blink, and a DNS error will prevent you from connecting to the internet. If this is the case, call your ISP Internet service provider 4. Check your authentication Security key on your router first, then check all your wireless devices to ensure they are on the same network name, key, and channel with the same type of encryption as the router 5. Start one device at a time and check for connectivity, if your still experiencing a problem, check the settings on all your wireless adapters, device drivers, internet browser settings, firewalls and proceed. 6. still have problems, connect a rj45 cable from the router directly to your computer to at least see if your wireless settings are bad or if the router may be bad. 7. Contact your ISP to determine if your receiving singal 8. Avoid using a splitter or parital power backup for yours routers 9. Still having problems, change your wireless router only after your ISP changes their faulty modem 10.Attempt the same process when setting up your new wireless router and or modem ie (internet EXPERT)

Hello, this service *****SERVICE_NAME: wzcsvc***** is running in the computer background and IT IS THE CAUSE OF THE ERROR. We need to shut down this service. Please use COMPUTER MANAGEMENT CONSOLE to shut down that service. Once you do, that error will disappear and everything will return to normal

Check the authentication (Correct passcode present and installed) for WEP security protocol to make sure you have it inserted into your advanced properties for the pc.

There are two types of wireless utilizies. one of them is controlled AUTOMATICALLY by windows to setup your configuration for you ALL except the encryption WEP code, you need to manually install that to remove the error that your getting.

The other is the wireless software utility that comes with your wireless device. This software allows for more control over the wireless internet process.

Server not found} NetGear WGR614 Wireless Router doesn't connect me to the internet.

Dear Loud Nouises,

Your router must be connected properly to the cable modem. This must be to the wan port on the router.

Next, the router must be set-up accordingly to recognize the modem's internet connections. Please ask for the IP address.. and other relevant informations from your internet provider.

Set -up your computer using the internet connections wizard on each of your respective computer.

This should work fine if all connections were correctly configured.
