How do I connect amp to receiver?

Amp?? You want to connect an audio amplifier to another audio amplifier? Well, start by finding your local electronic repair shop's phone number as "speaker level" does not play well with another "speaker level." External devices such as CD, MP3, DVD, etc. output what is called "Line" level which is a fraction of the amount created by speaker level amplifiers. Audio equipment is designed to amplify this line level input to a speaker level that will...well, power speakers. Wikipedia should be able to explain this in more depth.

How do I connect a Marantz av8801 to a Marantz sr7009

The 8801 is an 11.2 channel AV preamp/processor. The SR7009 is a 9.2 channel receiver that includes both preamp and amplifiers.

The 8801 handles an amazing 11 channels of audio, but you can only use the SR7009 for 7.1 input channels. (Does anyone really need 11?) Unless you have some extremely demanding audio requirements, you would probably just want to use the SR7009 by itself. You can't fully utilized the 8801 as a front end (pre/pro) so I'm not aware of any benefits to connecting the two of these together.

Whitch port's in back do i use to connect phono. I have a Dual 506 , and White & Black lines, is Black the hot, or white. The Marantz is a sr-685.

You don't, at least not directly.

"PHONO" is the only designated connection on a receiver that is literal and exclusive. Nothing but PHONO will work right on it and old-school turntables would require it to preamplify the tiny current produced by a Phono cartridge.

If your unit doesn

I have put an equalizer on to my technics saex-310 just wondered can I use it on my amp

I am afraid the equalizer cannot be used on an amplifier only. The receiver has a power section and "preamplifier" section as well, meaning it has power and a control section for volume, etc. There must be a control section present for the signal from the equalizer to be processed. Just the power amplifier by itself is not enough to process the signal. You will need a preamplifier section as well to do the job.

I have stereo preamplifier and a tuner and

What you need is a power amp.Now if you have rca jacks for the preamp ouput you can use any power amp that has that type of connectors for input.Just try to match it with the power handling capabilities of your speakers, it should be written at the back of it along with the impedance(4 to 8 ohms standard)

Buzz in amplifier power transformer. The amp is a Marantz Model 240. It functions perfectly well, and there's no noise from it in the speakers, but the transformer buzzes whenever the unit is plugged in...

All transformers buzz though you cannot hear it normally. The big transformers on power lines like to buzz for all to hear. When a transformer in a stereo amp gets old and deteriorates or gets hot and  expands the coils, melts the coil varnish and epoxy coatings then rattles at 60 times per second.    You can ignore it or change the transformer. There are too many layers of windings to try to stick anything in there.  Disconnecting a transformer results in inductive kickback -that's not money. It's a big, whopping electrical gotcha! Be careful! Good luck, Steve Medley
