The standard has always been 3000 miles,,,dont mess with these that claim more,,,carbon build up is the leading cause of faliure,,and the oil is the blood of your engine,,keep it changed,,put some injector cleaner in couple times a yr.,,water remover couple times in winter and you will get long service from your vehicle.

Recommended oil change mileage

You can more or less pick your number depending on how you use the truck.
Oil change shops will tell you 3,000 miles or 3 months, the general rule today is 5,000 miles or 6 months, and your owners manual probably says something else.
It should be changed at least once a year if you don't drive it much, or more than every 5,000 miles if you drive it hard or use it for towing or city driving.

My jeep wrangler just passed 100,000 miles, what service does it need?

Here is the basic maintenance list for your Jeep:

~ Inspect lights and check tire pressure at least monthly or before & after each trail ride

~ Oil & filter change, chassis lubrication, differential and transfer-case fluids every 3,000 to 5,000 miles or 3 to 4 months - if you have recently crossed through water deep enough to submerge the centre of your hubs, replace the differential fluids as a precaution

~ Underhood belt and hose inspection every 3,000 to 5,000 miles or 3 to 4 months (every oil change)

~ Tire rotation and wheel balancing every 6,000 miles or every other oil change - driving offroad can knock wheel weights off a wheel, so you may need to have this done more frequently

~ Brake inspection every 6,000 miles or every other oil change - if you have rum brakes in the rear, ensure they are cleaned after each trail ride where you encountered deep mud/snow

~ Replace air filter every 12,000 to 24,000 miles or as indicated by inspection - dusty trails can shorten these intervals dramatically

~ Replace fuel filter every 24,000 to 100,000 miles

~ Automatic transmission service every 24,000 to 100,000 miles

~ Wheel alignment check every 12,000 to 24,000 miles or as indicated by tire wear - offroad driving can knock wheels out of alignment, so budget for an alignment every 3 months, then watch tread wear to see if it's needed

~ Cooling system flush and refill every 40,000 to 100,000 miles

~ Belt and hose replacement every 60,000 to 100,000 miles or 5 to 8 years

~ Engine timing belt replacement every 60,000 to 100,000 miles (when equipped) or 5 to 8 years

~ Air conditioning performance check annually, usually in the spring - be sure to run your A/C during the winter for brief period to ensure all hoses and valves stay lubricated and operable

I have a 2006 Mazda Tribute. Can you tell me what the recommended time is between lube and oil changes. Is it 3000 miles or 5000. Thanks

It used to be every 3 months or 3,000 miles but some manufacturers are suggesting that 5,000 miles is ok. My view is that it does not hurt the motor having more oil changes. I continue to have them done every 3,000 miles myself even if my oil life indicator has not come on. Clean oil is very important to have a engine last for many miles. There are some full synthetic oils that can go for 5,000 or 7,000 miles beteween oil changes but cost alot more than the standard oil.

How often should I change the oil in my 2007 New Beetle

Hi:
The standard rule of thumb is 3000 miles, but you can adjust that a bit longer if you don't drive hard or drive thru dirty conditions.

Any particular quirks to changing the oil in a 1998 V70? I have 160K on it, is it time to go to a different grade of oil?

No different from any other oil change, just reset the oil life on the dash if it has one which i believe it does. The oil grade is 5W-30 on the turbo engines and 10W-30 on the non turbo engines. If you like you can go with the synthetic oil which will give you up to 25,000 miles or 1 year before service, but you do have to replace the oil filter every 5,000 to 7,000 mile and top off the synthetic oil which in the long run be cheaper then changing the oil and filter every 5,000 miles or six months for turbo and 3,000 to 4 months for non turbo engines. Good luck and hope this helps.

What weight of oil is best for summer use in Iowa

5W-40 is what the manufacture calls for. The heat out side will not make a difference since the engine's temperature is moderated by the cooling system. If you use synthetic oil, you can go with out changing from 25,000 miles to 17,000 miles or 1 year but you do have to replace the oil filter every 7,500 miles to 5,000 miles. For conventional oil it calls for oil and filter change every 5,000 miles or 4 months which ever comes first. Hope this helps. keep me posted be glad to answer more questions.
