MY SONY DSC-S40 KEEPS SWITCHING OFF WHEN I TRY TO TAKE A PHOTOGRAPH

Thank you for your assistance, I have many problems with the camera, when I go to view and then darken the lcd display and go to movie, it works. When I am showing the lcd and go to movie it does not work. And when I try to take a photograph it switches off immediately. I am so annoyed for I bought this camera for my daughter, she used it once and then gave it back to me. I used it once and was able to do the movie and the photograph and then it wouldnt work except as I mentioned above and then only in movie mode.

Turn the camera off, then holding all the buttons in the circle on the back of the camera (up, down, left right and select buttons) with your thumb, turn the camera on. This may take a couple of tries, but it does work as I have the same problem on my camera.
