Problem for Sony (CRX100E) CD-RW Burner

AWE64 and Sony CRX100E CDRW

By Bray - usenet poster

Greetings,

I have two CD ROM devices installled in my computer under Windows 98.
The new Sony Spressa CRX100E CDRW is installed and configured as the
"Master", and my Toshiba 8X CD ROM is installed and configured as the
slave CD ROM. Both are operating correctly.

My Soundblaster AWE64 card appears to have two different CD ROM
connectors. When I connect either the Sony CD ROM or the Toshiba CD
ROM to the card, the sound is played correctly. But if I connect both
CD ROMs at the same time, one to each connector, I get no sound.

I am wondering if there is a way to connect the two CD ROM's to the
AWE64's CD ROM inputs and have it work with both?

Thanks,

Bob

Same here I connected my CRX100E useing the little white connector (newer
style) with the cable that came with the drive  to the AWE64 and have my
AOPEN 36X connected to the AWE64 with the larger black connector (older
style) no problems. As far as the HP8100i being a rebaged SONY you got my
curiostiy raised. Is this really so?

Instead of splicing the cables, try getting a y-splitter from creative labs.
I have a DVD-ROM drive paired with a CD-RW.  The included Y-Splitter with the
DVD package works perfectly so I can get perfect CD audio from either drive.
Provided the drive I am using is set up in Windows as the Audio CD drive.

I posted this same question months ago. Connecting the two drives to the
sound card shorts something out on the sound card. I have thought about
doing what a friend did and splice cables together for sound and run a
single cable to the sound card. My friend has not had any problems but I
don't see a real need to have both drives attached to the sound card.

Thanks.  I thought about the idea of splicing together the cables too,
but now I realize that there isn't any real need to connect both to
the sound card, unless I might want to play a music CD in one while
working with files in the other.  I wonder if Sony or someone could
design a CDRW that would have a pass through connector that would
allow connecting the "slaves'" CD-ROM's Soundcard cable to it? That
would solve the problem.
