I have Garmin nuvi 200w it worked great for about 3 weeks. Now I can't locate a Satellite signal. It was a gift and I hope my son didn't throw out the receipt

I've had a Nuvi 760 for 2 months, and used for two short trips. Now it does not locate the satellites (no bars at all). All I get is 'Trouble finding satallites'. I've tried to reset it (following advice by 'ronbot'), but sill not working. Looks like a lemon!

Have you tried performing a full Reset? Slide the Power key to the LEFT, and hold for at least 8 seconds. Then turn the nuvi back on while outside in clear view of sky. It should take < 1 minute to calculate a position.

If not, you may have a defective unit in need of repair.

Just purchased a garmin nuvi 205W in Florida. It

This device should find a signal nearly anywhere it is used. The further away from the earth's equator it is used will increase signal lock or "fix" time though. You should be able to get a fix by bringing the unit into an open space (few / low trees, buildings, etc.) and leave on for up to 20 minutes. The GPS should provide an accurate location in this amount of time and should be able to fix in a moment or so from that point on.

If you have troubles still, contact Garmin Support below:

I hope this helps!

Edge 305 quit acquiring satellites

Are you in open space ? Remember GPS won't work well indoors.
Even near a high wall in town it may be hard to catch satellites.

If you are in open space, then check the option that disables GPS receiver in the system menu (see your manual for details)

My 6 month old Nuvi 760 turns on, but no signal

It is entirely possible you need a new battery. Use and abuse shortens the battery life. Starting the engine while GPS connected or overcharging on AC or PC.

If it fails to acquire on full charge or replaced battery then it has a damaged chip from the usage i stated above. Not warrantble either.

Is it normal for the satellites to change from 11 feet to 35 feet when unit(760 Garmin), is fixed in one location(stationary) in 30 mins.? Just purchased this month. Also car "laggs behind @ intersections,...

It is perfectly normal for the satellite signal accuracy to change frequently and this is nothing at all to worry about. Go into your settings and preferences and make sure the WAAS setting is selected. This will give you the maxium accuracy. The jerky movements are the graphics loading was tge map scrolls and again this is no problem. Enjoy your GPS the are a lot of fun.

Garmin/honda nuvi 760

The unit receives signals from 3 (or more) satellites, and uses very sensitive timing to determine your distance from each of them. The unit does not transmit to the satellites, but only receives what they transmit... so it is a "receiver, only".

See here for the details of how a GPS works:

Hope that helps you...

Unit will not acquire the satellite signs

FYI ....My Roadmate 760 would not aquire a signal, I went to diagnostic screen and found it was detecting/tracking 0/0 satellites. Held the plugged in unit out the window and within 10 seconds was tracking 7 satellites! Turned out my 1999 Olds Silhouette Van has a anti-glare filter inside the factory windshield that blocks GPS signals. My wifes 2001 Chevy Impala also has same type filter. Check your windshield, filter is visible inside glass to within about three inches of edges of glass. Worth a look.

My Garmin has stopped finding destinations - just says "Searching for Satellite)+

I had the same problem with my Nuvi 310. Found a solution in here that works. Here's a copy of the advice.....note you will need to get in the car and set it for a destination and go. 5-10 mins later the Garmin Nuvi will lose the satellites, but don't adjust it it, leave it on and keep going. Eventually after about an hour it will right itself, pick up the satellites and evrything will be back to normal.

Here's the advice:

I experienced the same problem about acquiring satellite signal even when it's a clear sunny day. After 30 mintues, it was still searching!
The unit appeared to have "stuck" in this acquiring mode. The following worked for me:
1) open the GPS antenna
2) press the bottom left screen while holding the power button to turn the unit on
3) enter maintenace mode
4) select diagnostics
5) clear error report, do NOT clear any user data
6) restart unit the usual way

My GPS 350 was able to acquire satellite signal in less than 1 minute after the above steps were taken.
