The problem with cracked LCDs is that it is often too expensive to have fixed by anyone, including the manufacturer.
As suggested, you can look on Ebay for instance and see what the camera is going for with the stuff you have for it. You can then set a price and sell it for parts, as is, or repair.
I have fixed quite a few cameras with a broken LCD screen when I could find another which is in the price range I am willing to pay, which had a good LCD. So setting a price may take some research. The LCDs I have found for replacement costs about $80.00 to over $100.00. That may suggest that you sell it for parts, and buy another one.
On Ebay this camera sells in new shape for about $200.00.

Nothing much for me to suggest except have screen fixed or if it's too expensive sell it to someone who might be able to use it for parts or whatever purpose. As Ihelpya suggested send it to Nikon. I think you should check your bag. I have had cameras packed in different types of bags. I have never had that problem. Basically because the cameras are always in their individual cases well protected. If you put your camera in a bag without protection, that is the probable cause of the screen getting busted. If you put it in a camera bag then take a look at what's on the side as there must be something that was touching the screen to cause the crack.

You would have to call Nikon and see what the manufactorer warranty is. Most likely you can send it to them for repair or replacement. Most likely it might cost you some $. You might want to research what the cost is and then make a decision on if its worth it to keep the camera or buy a different one.
