Unfortunately, there is no instruction out there for this. My advice is to take one of the other key off in order to see how it fits, then put the key back on the same as the other. I suggest a key right next to the one that is off. Be very gentle and try to remove only the key, leaving the retainer.

Gateway notebook , broken key on keyboard

If you are able to, try and pop the key out of the keyboard with a flat-head screwdriver. Here's a guide on a generic Gateway. If there's no room in-between the keys, flip the computer off (while it's off) and see if there's screws in the back. This method concerns replacing the whole keyboard, and I'm not completely certain about how to do it. I'm sure google would help you out there.

Key popped out on Gateway 450SX Laptop. Nothing Broken. How do I pu it back on. Thanks.

First make sure to remove any dust or debris from the keyboard. Align the key in the proper place on the keyboard and gently push down to see it it will snap back in place. You may have to gently wiggle the key as you press down. If the key will not stay in place you may have to replace the whole keyboard. Another alternative would be to purchase an external USB keyboard or a wireless keyboard. Good Luck!

Replacement keys for keyboard

E-bay my friend. E-bay.  You can purchase individual keys for the keyboard or buy a whole keyboard and replace keys whenever you need to.

Key fell off

Normally, the solution is to replace the keyboard, they run about $20 on ebay and takes about 15 minutes to change.

Keybord key fell off

The keyboard has to be replaced, I had the same problem 3 times and they wont even sell you a keyboard, You have to send it in. You can just keep using the little rubber button underneath. I have a replacement keyboard for you for 25$ if you want it from a unit with a cracked lcd. post an E-mail address so I can get your info and I'll ship it free if you rate this fixya. Thank you

Sticky keys

Dear rwertheim

Try the following guide

http://www.laptoprepair101.com/laptop/2007/03/20/key-fell-off-keyboard/

There are no guides from Gateway for the keys available for the but this guide will be more than enough to help you through this one in order to remove them. Its should be completely the same principle.

Cleaning the keys should be done without alchohol based cleaners because the lettering might be erased. Use some soap and warm water instead and gently scrab with a soft brush the bottom of the keys.

Please remember to take out your laptop battery/ac adaptor in any case since you will be working at hardware level with your equipment.

Regards, and I wish you no more sticky keys!

Situation 1. The key cap and key retainer fell off the keyboard and you cannot figure out how to assemble them back. keyboard-key-repair-1.jpg Carefully remove the cap from any other working key so the key retainer stays connected to the keyboard.
keyboard-key-repair-2.jpg Take a closer look at the key retainer, it’s connected to the keyboard at four different points.keyboard-key-repair-3.jpg Assemble the disconnected retainer the same way as one on the keyboard and put it back in place.keyboard-key-repair-4.jpg Put the key cap on the retainer and snap the cap back in place.keyboard-key-repair-5.jpg
