Noise coming from AC adapter (by 2 users)

posted by teemdee3424 on Jul 16, 2008

my sony vaio has been through three different ac adapters. All three adapters made a weird insect like chirping noise everytime they were plugged in and eventually all three stopped working. how can i fix this? is the laptop shorting the ac adapters somehow?

My ac adapter plug has a short, the prong that plugs into the computer. Sometimes it works, sometimes it chirps. Anyway, I have an adapter from a different computer but the prong is the wrong size. Can I get an adapter that I do not have to install? I want to plug the prong onto my old adapter, then plug it into an adapter that will fit my laptop.

There is a possibility that the power managment sestem in the computer has malfunctioned and is back feeding and burning up the supplies. You will need to take this in for a professional diagnostic to find out if you have a back feed problem. A back feed problem is rare, but not unheard of.
