Question about HP PSC 2110 All-In-One InkJet Printer
I emailed Canon Tech Support (after searching their MP FAQ) and received this response. It worked for me:
Please follow these steps to set the push button event for the MP520
1. Click on the Windows button and then Control Panel.
2. Double-click 'Scanners and Cameras'. For Vista users, if 'Scanners and Cameras' is not listed, click 'Switch to Classic View' on the left and then try again.
3. Double-click on the MP520.
4. Next, click on the Events tab.
5. For the 'Send to this application' option, select ScanGear driver, MP Navigator, or imaging application you would like to use for the scan button event in the list.
6. Click Apply or OK to save your settings.

I had the same problem. The all-in-one driver download doesn't include the stuff you need for the scanner. Go to this link (canon), click "OSX" on the dropdown list for what os you're using, then click "mp520sosxsd1391ej7.dmg" under "MP520 series Scanner Driver Ver. 13.9.1 (Mac OS X 10.2/10.3/10.4/10.5/10.6)." It doesn't take long to download and completely fixes the problem.

if you live in the uk i can offer you a few contacts who will give you
a price who will cover but it might be worth once it breaks just to buy
a new one because then you will have a years new warrenty on the
product. MP520 is not really worth extended service plan to be honest.
Hope this is ok

SOURCE: error cannon pixma mp520
Turned it on, off many times as instructions suggest,
etc no dice. Reinstalled software, did everything including giving it a few taps.I was very seriously ready to buy a new one and trash this one, even checking flyers. I read where so my are having this same problem.
In my anger I started pushing all the buttons randomly and suddenly the green light stayed on.
Voila the crazy thing works fine again. Must have reset the glych somehow ?(I have no idea how)
Give it a try before giving up, who knows!!

Hi You can Try 2 things.
ERROR 5100 means that there is some foreign object blocking your cartridges carriage that disables it from moving. Generally when this happens, something has fallen into the printer, or a piece of paper has been jammed in there.
First step, remove the ink cartridge, and turn the printer upside down and gently shake it, see if anything comes out.
If nothing goes, or you can't hear anything rattling around, get a piece of cardstock paper (60lb or heavier) and gently push this through the printer, to see if it will help push out what might be stuck in there
It may be a piece of paper or a scotch tape or a staple wire.
Clean the timing strip.
The purge cap (the white sliding mechanism that the print head parks to when it's not in use) may be not lubricated well enough .
Lubricate the sliders with some white grease (don't get it on the small wipers or the black caps); this repair probably require to remove the right panel off of the printer to gain access to the purge mechanism.
Please come back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one so I will keep on helping.
