Creative Labs ZEN Vision:M Digital Media Player Logo
Posted on Jan 20, 2011

Hi all. I jet off for a 26 hour flight in about 10 hours and am at my wits end regarding this new (second hand) Creative ZVM MP3 player I've just bought. I have a wall adaptor which plugs into the DC 5V plug, a USB which plugs in as well and I have installed the software on my computer (Media Manager). I go to charge the damn thing via the wall adaptor and it turns on, I can browse the library and listen to anything I want, the light remains steady blue, and I am getting a power plug symbol at the top right hand corner of the screen (no battery symbol). I left it like that all night last night (it says it only needs 2.5 hours to charge fully), and the minute I take the Wall adaptor out to go and listen to the music on the go, the player just blacks out and it looks as though it's dead. Was it actually charging at all? In short, I am only able to work it when it's plugged into the wall. It's driving me crazy - if I have to go on a 26 hour flight from Australia to the USA without any music, I will murder somebody!!! How do I get it to charge??? PLEASE HELP

MY Zen WONT TURN ON. It also wont charge.

Connect the player to a USB port on the back of a desktop PC.. Check the display for the charging icon . As the display times out after a few seconds, press any button on the player to reactivate the display. If the battery is fully depleted, the charging icon may not be displayed. Cup the player in your hands to check that the blue power LED behind the Play/Pause and Options buttons is blinking on and off repeatedly. This indicates that the player is successfully charging. After 1 hour of charging, power on the unit to activate the display. The charging icon should be displayed. Allow the player to charge for at least 6 hours. During this time, if charging from a USB port, please ensure your PC does not enter a power conservation mode (Standby, Sleep, or Hibernate) as this will interrupt charging. If the player does not indicate a charge, or will not power on after at least 6 hours of charging, please contact Customer Support.
You might try updating your ZEN V or ZEN V Plus firmware to take advantage of new features and functionality.

Wont Turn ON

(1) Hit the reset button for 5 seconds.
(2) Hit the reset button, slide down the on/off slide, and have it plugged into the computer at the same time. Hold for 5 seconds.
(3) Hit the reset button again.
(4) Charge it for at least 10 hours in the port in the BACK of your computer.
(5) After 10 hours, unplug the player and press the + volume button. While still holding it, plug the player back in. Keep holding it for 5-50 seconds. (most likely nothing will pop up).
(6) Let the player sit UNPLUGGED for a good 3 hours.
(7) Plug the player back in (it should light up now). Let it charge the usual time it takes to charge for an empty battery, about 6 hours.

Firmware prblems

Go to Creative's website and get the firmware Update.

If no:
I stumbled on a knowledge base on the Creative web-site after I had registered the player; maybe this was not available to me previously.
This player has a Reset button sunk into the base. It needs a prod with the end of a paper clip during the boot up. The resultant Recovery menu gives the option to Format the disc which I've done and successfully loaded my music back again. It is now playing very nicely and hopefully will continue to do so.

I hope this info will help others with the same problem. I t appears that the music files can become corrupted very easily.

Zen vision m firmware problem

Dear All this problem is caused if the computer has windows media player 11 installed. I googled this for days trying to fix it - & was relieved when i finally sorted it - it's very easy. Just do the following.
Use a computer that has XP (either pro or home edition) (forget about vista....). go to add/remove programs - uninstall windows medi player - on my PC it does a roll back to WMP version 9. There's also a program called "Windows media format runtime 11" which comes with WMP11 & you need to uninstall this too - otherwise it still won't recognise the player.

Then restart your PC. Then make sure you have downloaded the lastest firmware version - just google it - trying to find the right one on the creative website is not easy - their website is poor - there are quite a few other places you can download it from.

Then I clicked the "reload firmware" option in the recovery mode (I had already deleted it 4 days ago). Then when your PC has restarted plug in your Zen, it should come up something like "MTP device recognised". Now when you double click on the firmware downloaded to install - it it will recognise the player & you can click the upgrade button. It does the upgrade & puts the firmware back on the ZEN. I got a message saying "firmware upgrade failed" at the end although when I started the player - it booted up as normal & I was able to reload & play my music.

This sure beats the "send it back to John Lewis, pay 60 quid & wait 6 weeks for it to come back " option - if like mine it's out of warranty

Creative zen v mp3 player

vista doesn't have the support yet for a lot of things printers and MP3's included. It uses a new system for storing driver information and many companies just don't want to make new drivers for old products or they are having trouble with the new driver scheme the best advice i can give you is to go to the manufacteur's website and look for a vista compatable driver. That's really all that can be done unfortunately.

Zen Vision:M videos out of sync..EVERYTIME!

ZVM cannot handle the AC3 audio so the AVI files need to have mp3 audio. I have a lot of videos that I have converted over the years that I want to play on the ZVM. In order to check compatibility I have been using gspot. I just open the program, drag and drop the file, and get all the details I need in about 5 seconds.
