Question about Televison & Video

Open Question

I have a philips 55pp model hdtv buit in 10/02. The pic just began to ward this past weekend. I've gone online thinking i need to replace the lamp, however, every place I've called does not have this model tv lamp. It does have a convergence menu, but when I use the remote to manually adjust it, I get lost.what to do? Is it worth fixing? I really enjoy the set.

I have the same issue with my 55PP9401 TV. I replaced the convergence chips and now need to do a manual alignment...but can not find the instructions on how this is done. I have pushed the service button inside the TV and see the Grid...but my factory remote does not seem to move any of the lines...Please help!

    Thanks Lance

SOURCE: rca 52' projection convergence problem

Its a good possibility that your convergence problem could for now be cold solder connections on the driver ICs on the convergence board. The longer you use it the more of a problem its going to surge those ICs till they go bad and maybe cause other componet falure as well. If your not a technician i would have this set serviced asap before it becomes a major repair Good Luck

1. Go to Picture section
2. Scroll down
3. More menu option appear
4. Then pick 'convergence' on the list
5. push remote right key
Then you're at the convergence menu.

SOURCE: Remote LOST - need info on what button to press...JVC AV-48WP30

There might be some features that the universal remotes aren't able to do. To perform the convergence alignment you should have the original remote.
Do you have the user manual or service manual?
The service manual will explain this process better.

I have a philips 60pl9200d/37 the picture is fairly dark even though I've turned the brightness all the way up

The lamp can cause a dark picture if it is defective. There is an access door to the lamp. Take the lamp out and inspect it. Especially at the bottom of the center stem where you may see a bubbling of the glass. If so it is bad for sure. Other problem could be in the main board. For good price on lamp with housing go to and enter the model number.

I was watching tv this morning and my set made a loud popping sound and the screen turned black. A red light appeared which read lamp and there was a burning smell. I unplugged the tv waited for a few...

The lamp is most likely needing replacement. Replaceing the lamp is a very easy proceedure on that model.I am pasting a pic where the lamp cover is located on rear cover. Remove the screw and the lamp is behind the lamp door.

much cheaper to do it yourself, go online put in your tv's model number and seach for thr lamp and make sure you order the entire lamp assembly, on the back of your tv there is a door open and take out old lamp so you know what you are ordering, and when replacing the new lamp amke sure not to touch the lamp

Magnavox model 50ML8105D/17 shuts down after only a few seconds and overheat and lamp failure lights come on , I`ve replaced the lamp , but the problem still occurs

We reduced the picture size to 4:3 and was able to get quite a bit more life out of the lamp, without it shutting down. It does take awhile to get use to. But is much better than a dust catcher
