No sound problem is power amplifier trouble maybe the IC there is defected or cold solder of joint of the parts.Cold solder issues - each component is soldered into small holes on the printed circuit board which in turn connects said component to the other components. Due to time, heat, use, some solder joints would be cracked or loose. It is possible that the cold solder is still minimally connected (hanging by a thread). When the receiver turns on heat would be generated which would be sufficient to further loosen up the solder joint to the point it no longer provides electrical contact. Jarring the unit creates movement inside enough to re establish the contact, sometime good enough sometimes not enough.

Again, since the unit still operates (sometimes) then it is highly probable that there are no defective components. As you have surmised, it is possibly a loose connection, solder joints are "connections" except that molten soldering lead is used to attach/connect the component to the board, "loose connection" in this sense is equal to "cold solder".

Again on the assumption of no defective parts, then seeking a more experienced buddy for the soldering might be to your advantage. This is of course in addition to the possible electrical hazards when repairing....If i have helped, please click fixya. It is the only way i get paid for my work...

I have a THS220 box and have difficulty recording programmes

Hello Joan,

To record a satellite you will need two scart leads.

Plug one end of the first scart lead into the "DVD/VCR SCART" socket on the back of the satellite receiver, then plug the other end into the "INPUT" scart on the back of the VCR. Take one end of the second scart lead and plug it into the "OUTPUT" socket on the back of the VCR and plug the other end into "SCART IN" socket on the back of the TV.

To record, select the satellite channel you want to record, then, on the VCR, select scart input, (at this point, you can record a satellite program). To watch a satellite channel or recorded satellite channel, select the scart input on the TV.

If you need anymore information, then let me know.

Kind regards,

Ron.

Can i play records through my sherwood rd6108 receiver? When i try to play a record i get no sound no matter which channel i use.

Record players require a PHONO input on an amp.
Most amps no longer have this, so you will need to source out a pre-amp for the record player, and then you can plug the record player into the pre-amp and then hook the pre-amp into a tape, DVD or AUX input.

I have sound when I play the dvd or the cd player

Sounds like the setup info got scrambled in the receiver. Re-program the TV input...from optical or coax or whatever way it is going into the receiver.

Hook up dvd

not much info, use the 3 colour RCA cables that usallly come with your DVD player, they will be white/red (sound) and yellow (video) plug these between the outputs on the DVD player to a spare input on the tv or amplifler input, recommend using the DVD input. This should be all that is needed, if it is a dvd recorder you will need to have this in the loop of the areial, so it would go >wall socket>digital settop box( DVB box/HD/SD tuner)>DVD/dvd recoder>VCR>TV(if you want to retain older analog channels, hope this helps

Cheers Toby
