Question about GE D52GW12 52" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

1 Answer

Hdtv monitor The power button flashes but tv does not turn on. We heard a sizzling noise inside the set so we removed the back cover and a circuit board with a control on it that had two knobs to control the screen and focus. Sparks were comming out of the top of that. What is that piece and can just that part be replaced or will i have to replace the whole board? And what what would be an estimate for the cost to do so?

    I am having the same problem. I am trying to figure out how to fix it without buying a whole new tv.

    I don't know about the sparks, although I am a little concerned now! The rest of it sounds exactly like the problem I am having. The TV will come on sometimes, but then will almost immediately turn itself off.

2 solutions for problem. ONE color wheel is grinding. IF high pitched sound is heard. Second bad fan or fan contaminated with dust. Turn TV off unplug. LET cool down ... Using canned air clean all vents on rear of set. MAY also need to remove cover and find the 3 fans inside of set.

We heard a "pop" noise

The pop noise could be a capacitor poping its top up.This is a common problem to most TV sets today. Usually located at the power supply board.Once this parts give up it usually shorts the circuit and blows a fuse.Replacements of these parts mentioned will often remedy the problem.Flashing power indicators indicate a problem.If you have the chance of counting how many the blinks are I could have told you the problems code are and the source of the problem.

My screen is blank and the power button keeps flashing blue

AV56wp74? The power button blinking blue means the set is in shutdown----the most common reason for this in this set is one of the two convergence chips is shorted. The way I usually prove this is to remove rear cover and or front grill and examine convergence circuit located at the front of the set----Also--I will unplug the plug from that circuit board that goes to the TV's power supply---if the set turns on with the convergence circuit board unplugged from it---you know your trouble is one of the two chips---if this is the case both have to be replaced and the set adjusted.

I do this here for free so if this has helped you give me a vote here. If you have questions or need help let me know.

Projection tv not working

I guess loud sizzling was from High Voltage Splitter in your TV. HV seems cracked and leaking high voltage.

You can observe and confirm it by removing back cover and power up TV from distance and check at rear of TV. Please take care and there should be little dark to observe arc from HV splitter.

If this is the case, HV splitter available in Part Store.

If it has "Popped" then I would expect a rather catastrophic failure, and Lamps don't go "Pop.. they just fail more likely a Capacitor, Resistor, maybe even a semiconductor... so it's off to a reputable repairman get a "quote" and proceed from there.

Tv cuts off reset it will come back on fan makes noise then ramps up and shuts tv off

Here's something that might also be useful. After you turn on the set, and get the regular red blinky lights, hold down the Device and Menu buttons together for about 5 seconds.
The Power light will start to flash in a two digit sequence.

For example, 3 flashes, then 7 flashes = 37.

Here are the error codes, and the corresponding problem:

12 = No error detected, check power supply.
32 = Lamp Cover is open.
33 = Air filter cover is open.
34 = Lamp abnormality
36 = Light Engine (DMD or Lamp Fan stopped)
37 = Exhaust or Lamp Ballast Fan stopped
38 = Lamp Temperature High
39 = DMD Temperature High
41 = Short is detected
44 = DVI cable between FMT and Engine disconnected
