My xbox says unreadable disc with every game. i took off my hard drive and put my friends on and it still says the same thing.

    my xbox 360 says unreadable disc with all games. it just started this today. up till now it has been fine

    This is simple 123



    1. Clean the pick up lens with 100% cotton.

    then you test run, if not reading again proceed to #2

    2. check the flex ribbon wire of the pick up lens, replaced a new one is good!. if not reading again go to #3

    3. Replace the pick up lens...



    This is the 3 step simple method to fix the unreadable disc for xbox

    The Xbox 360 console cannot read the disc correctly. This can happen for any of the following reasons:



    •
    The disc is dirty or damaged

    •
    The disc is from a different country or region than the console

    •
    Non-disc issues

The XBOX systems depending on the one you bought has one of 3 possible DVD Drives in the system. Thomson, Phillps and Toshiba. The Thomson drive is one of the worst drives to have as it has a high rate of failure. It could be the possibility of your DVD Drive is starting to fail or having problems with some games.

The other possibility is that your XBOX is starting to overheat which can cause problems reading discs.

Lastly, it could simply be there may be a problem on the disc your XBOX picks up and your brother's doesnt. Try cleaning your disc in a circular motion or cleaning with a non-abrassive cloth from the inside of the disc outward.

If the problem persists, find out about having your XBOX serviced.

If the disc works on other machines its your disc drive

if you got warranty USE IT,
or you can trade it in and get a 360, one realese of the xbox had a hardware issue (disc drive) which microsoft replaces's you can contact microsoft to see in you fall in this catagory..

if not repairs are straight foward,
1.) open the xbox up
2.) remove the disc drive
3.) purchase a replacement
4.) put it in
5.) thats it

the drive is held in place by some screwas and a cable.. It wont take brain surgery to replace it

    since the tracks are very small and needs fine laser to be shot over the disc to read the disc

    and thus very small dust particles will cause the lens unable to read the disc.

after you install the game to your hard drive it may work due to the fact that the game CD is only needed to validate the game. yeah my xbox 360 does the same thing theres a software that fixes that you have to go with someone that burns games for xbox just asked for the software that converts the xbox so it can read games use that if you buy the software. the way it works you have to put the cd in the xbox before you put the game that you bought but every time you want to play the game you have to put the software disc then you put your game than it will work

Madden 08 is unreadable with my hard drive connected
Hmm.... I encountered this once. Check the disc and check for scratches. Then, use a dry soft cloth (must not be wet at all) and rub it around the disc but don't rub the center of the disc. If this doesn't work swap the game. I mean give the Madden with the problem to EB Games or Gamestop and swap it for a brand new one. It should work fine.
