I have a Canon MX 340 printer. I have installed a brand new Canon 211 XL color cartridge, which I believe is compatible with this unit. Whenever I go to print something in color, I am getting the following error message: "Only the following cartridge will be used for printing: Black. Click OK to print with current cartridge. "If you want to use the following ink cartridge (Color), click Cancel Printing. Then select Both Black and Color for the Ink Cartridge Settings on the Maintenance tab of the printer driver and print again." What and where is the Maintenance tab of the printer driver?

Will the XL ink cartridges compatible with the PIXMA MX 490 printers? I read "yes" and "no" that the xl causes error messages.

The Canon Pixma MX490 can use the PG-245XL black and the CL-246XL cartridge.
The appropriate ink cartridges are listed in the specifications, the manual and the Supplies & Accessories information at the product support page: https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/details/printers/support-inkjet-printer/mx-series/pixma-mx490 .

I hope this helps.

Installed new ink cartridges mx 300, compatible B&W 40, color 41, printer status still says low ink, printing as if it is low ink. properly installed, tape removed, what i miss? can I check something...

Do you know what?. As a matter of fact,it is not compatible cartridges you buy. It is refurbished cartridges that repackaged with other brand as if this is their product. I say it is original cartridges that once empty and repackaged. So that's why when you install the cartridge the ink level stays low. You can make it sure by comparing it with new original cartridge. Find original cartridge, may be you can borrow from someone, which ink level still full and install on your printer. I am a hundred percent sure ink level will show properly :).

Is there a cheaper way to replace the Canon MP240 ink cartridges by using a generic source?

I would not recommend using generics for the PG-210 CL-211. Canon builds these style cartridges with what we simply call a "digital fuse". Basically there is coding on the cartridge that turns the cartridge off once the printer believes it to be empty. For this reason we do not refill these cartridges in our shop, nor do we suggest refills at all. If you would like to use refills, Canon printers that take the 221 series cartridges refill well and are reliable. But make sure you only use refills of Canon original cores. Internet "compatibles" commonly don't fit right, or have communication errors.

Changing print color cartridge

The cartridge you have change are did not much or not compatible with your printer. You just buy a cartridge with the same brand of your previous cartridge that used and to make sure that your printer are recognize it. Because some compatible ink are cannot be recognized by other printer.

To buy or not to buy canon or compatible inks

The generic inks don't hurt your machine at all, but I find that the colors arent as good and bright as the Canon inks.
