Question about PC Desktops

1 Answer

I have a HP laptop that is about 18 months old. It's been working fine except battery is too low to run without using elec. cord. I used it yesterday, turned it off, then went to start it today and the blue lites come on but the screen stays black. I've tried every button and took out the battery from the back. The top blue lites stay on and the small blue icons on the lower lt hand corner remain lit, but nothing will make the screen turn on!! I'm very frustrated that I cannot even back up my harddrive. Any suggestions or have you heard of this problem? I have a warranty. Thank you, Lisa Bommarito @ thebommaritos5@yahoo.com

Just curious - have you installed the Windows XP update Service Pack 3? It just started going out for automatic updates, recently. I've had two computers which started acting kina like this after the windows update. Not sure that was the cause, but..

I had the same exact problem letter for letter except mine was a COMPAQ Presario F730US. I Bought an external 2.5 inch usb hard drive case and placed my hard drive from the laptop in it. I backed up all my files to my desktop making a mirror image of the hard drive. Then I wiped the Hard drive with wipe disk to destroy all my personal data and put the hard drive back in the laptop. I then sent it in for warranty repair for free. It took two weeks to get it back. I bought a new battey(12 cell) on ebay. Then I pulled the hard drive out of the now repaired laptop, put it back in the external usb case, formatted it NTSF and copied the mirror image of the drive back to it. I installed the hard drive back in the rejuvinated laptop, Installed the new battery, and powered it up. Fired up like it never happened. I did not lose 1 bit of data. The reason you make the mirror image with norton ghost is so you do not have to spend a month reinstalling all your apps and preferences. Follow these instructions to the letter and the result will be the same.
As you say you still under warranty get hoppin on this and it will only cost you 15 bucks for the external case and a new battery, which I recommend you get from ebay and not the manufacturer.(1/3 the price).

Hope this helps you,
George

PC - dies no power, but comes to life after a few days if left unplugged. Then it works and at somepoint dies again (no fans, power, etc) How do I fix?

My first thought would be that it is a power supply problem. But, before replacing the power supply, unplug the power cord from computer and wall plug, plug it in a gain making sure it goes in all the way.
If still flaky, its probably a power supply problem.
Hope it helps.

Your laptop's power adapter must be the problem, try borrow a power adapter power cord similar voltage rating and connector to your laptop's and test to see if it is the calprit.

Problem with battery charging and power cord plugging into laptop

Hi,
Thanks for using the fixya forum, but could you be more specific with the model and make of your system and how old is the battery. Generally the battries last not more than 18 months on a laptop.
