I have the same problem with 3, X3 projectors. IT has a shadow on the side of the screen. two of them are the same 4 to 6 inches as mentioned earlier. The other one has almost 3/4th of the screen in shadow.

That is typically called Ghosting but can also be called eclipse. Is the shadow a dark shadow or is it light?

It is hard to remove something such as this because it was a generation issue at one point that the manufacturer eventually had fixed entirely with newer chips with more advanced technology to it.

Can you do me a favor and post a picture on a host website that allows you to let others view your pic's then post the url on here so I can get an idea of what it looks like. It helps for me to see it since some times it can be mis-diagnosed but just talking about it.

Also, does it look like pixels might be out instead of a shadow--possibly?

Thank you for time and your request. Let me know if you have any further questions.

I had the same problem just 99 hours after changing the lamp for the first time. The problem you describe is most likely the light tunnel that is cracked. I wasn't able to buy a new one on my own, I had to turn it in for repair. The light tunnel is only a couple of mirrors that the light travels between.

Its a Light Tunnel failure. Go to www.avsforums.com and search for 4805 Light Tunnel. There are instructions to open the PJ and repair the Tunnel. Also, I posted a DIY replacement option in lieu of fixing the very fragile tunnel.

It has a shadow on half the screen

the light tunnel has collapsed. you can get the part from an infocus service center and do it yourself or send it to one for repair. either way, try av solutions in ny. they're really good. www.avsolutionsny.com

I have shadowing on the edges when in wide-screen. When in normal screen the image is fine. How do I get rid of the shadow? Also, is there a way to clean the mirror inside the unit?

the only way to properly and safely clean anything inside is with canned air. as for the shadow, replace the light tunnel. you can get the part from an infocus service center and replace it yourself, or send it in for repair. either way, try av solutions in ny. they're really good. www.avsolutionsny.com

Knoll hd-102 projector

Let me start by saying that my projector is an InFocus Screenplay 4805, but that I have had the shadow you're talking about on the left foot or so of my screen for about 18 months now. I've researched it and found out that it has something to do with the glue holding something called a "Light Tube" in place heating up and essentially becoming liquid enough to allow this light tube to shift positions...the further out of position it gets the more of that "eclipse" effect you see on the screen. It sound like yours has shifted far enough that no light can pass through it at all.

1/2 the screen is viewable

You would be wrong. Lamps do not do that. They either work or they don't, they do not cast shadows or give half an image.

What is going on is the light tunnel has failed. It is a small, 4-sided mirrored tunnel that focuses the light into the optical chamber. It is directly behind the color wheel. I've seen this probelm dozens of times.
