Question about HP Pavilion zd8000 Notebook

1 Answer

ZD8000 wont boot up.

My ZD8000 gets to the windows XP loading screen and gives me the old "blue screen of death" (a blue screen with an error message telling me to remove any newly connected hardware). I put in the XP recovery disk I got with my computer from the manufacturer but I am never given the option to boot from CD. If I use F10 to go into the setup when the computer starts I dont see any option to enable/disable the boot from cd option. I ran a hard drive test and it will fail a part of the test each time. Nothing is connected to my computer, not even a mouse. I am out of ideas, please help!

Well, since the check disc failed, you will need to start by replacing the hard drive. The hard drive failure has created something different in it's behavior, the machine perceives this difference as something new, therefore causing the newly connected hardware error. Once you've replaced the drive, at start up, where you see the prompt to press F10 to go to set up, there will be another prompt there telling you what to press to go to the boot menu. If you can't get to the boot menu, then you will need to change the boot order in the set up so that it boots from the CD before the hard drive.
