Yes. This is from the iRobot website:

Why does my Roomba back up for no apparent reason?
If Roomba starts to back up for no apparent reason and plays the "Uh-Oh" sound followed by 9 beeps, the bumper may be stuck with dirt and debris.
Please try the following steps:
Gently tap both sides of the bumper several times to shake out any debris that might be causing the bumper to stick.
Try cleaning around the bumper with compressed air.

Yes it is fixable. Unfortunately iRobot doesn't acknowledge the problem. I had the same issue and ordered a kit from http://www.eesolutions.ca

Roomba only goes backwards for a brief time then shuts off and beeps nine times. I've taken it apart and used can air to clean the 4 sensors. Any other suggestions?

Have you popped out the black and white castor wheel and cleaned that out? It is a part that should be replaced from time to time. The vac uses an optical sensor to see if the wheel is moving. If it isn't, it tries to back up and see if something is stuck in the wheel. Pop the wheel out, clean it and the shaft it sits on and put it back in. Wipe out the cavity before you reinstall it.

Roomba 560 goes in circles. appears lost

You have a locked wheel switch that needs to be cleared. You will need to remove the top of your roomba and find which wheel switch is clogged and clear it.

Backs up spins in circles, then red light flashes and beeps

Sounds like either the battery is bad or not being charged properly with subsequent loss of programming.

Irobot scooba 5800 spins quickly then sets off backwards

Remove and clean all of the wheels, and make sure the cliff sensors under the bumper are clean. Tap the bumper with your hand-- really smack it a couple of times. It sounds like the Scooba believes it's stuck against an obstacle.

My vacuum goes backwards easily, but forward with GREAT effort..

I would look closely at the wheels; I suspect the rug let strings of material wrap around the axles, just inside the wheels. Get a knife in there to cut and remove the remnants.
