Make sure that something isn't loose on the motherboard like a memory card, a hard drive cable, or a cd cable. Check you video card connections to make sure there good. If you have another monitor to use, you might want to try that as well.

Is the fan turning on your processor?

Computer shuts down on its own

Open Control Panel, Power Options, set to High Performance, open Change Plan settings, open Change Advanced Power settings, set Sleep and Hibernate to Never, adjust advanced settings to your preference. Always shut down your computer when not in use, it will last longer, If you don't have a UPS, will help protect against power surges.

Dell optiplex gx 620 powere went out last night and this morning it won't turn on. The only light I see is on the motherboard and its solid yellow

Test your PSU or replace it if your power supply units fan is not working your PSU is faulty

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect/ boot up a computer hard drive

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your MOTHERBOARD TO YOUR HARD DRIVE make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty

make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs its connections to continue its cycle and have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

even something as small as a faulty electrical extension or fan lead can cause you problems

computers need all of the data and electrical current to travel through every working device and to have an end to be able work properly

motherboard and a hard drive any leads between them will fail before your motherboard or your hard drive if its a flat ribbon 40 pin type IDE replace it this will be the first to fail

check all electrical power input and extensions make sure they are securely seated even the cd/dvd floppy drives need to have current go through make sure these drives are working

also check the Cmos battery and computer RAM modules make sure they are securely seated with no dust built up or in the sockets on some motherboards cmos batteries are soldered in

hope this helps you

My Emachines computer switches on fine but the screen goes into hibernation mode and says "no Signal" as if the base unit isn't switched on (but it is). It's only 2 years old and has a Acer...

Hi there,
If the machine switches on fine then it means it passed the POST process. try to unplug it from the outlet and press and hold the power button for about 20 sec to drain the flea power see if that will take the computer out of hibernation. If that doesn't work you might have to reseat the memory from it's place.
I don't think there's something wrong with the screen the fact that it displays No Signal tells that the screen is active but gets no Valid signal from the tower.
Hope this helps!

I left it on last night. This morning it was off

check your power cord to insure that you are getting power. make sure power cord is plug in the back.
look in back of computer. you will see a little orange switch. it says 115/220 click to 220. boot computer.
if computer boots up turn off and click back over to 115.
if it does not boot your power supply in your computer needs replacement.

Can you turn the hard drive of at night when not in use and not loose any data?

I would recommend you put your PC on standby that way it shuts off your computer but of course once you move the mouse it wakes up again. Or you can choose to hibernate so it saves everything your doing to your hard drive and once you turn your PC on it will restore everything you were doing from the hard drive. But putting your PC on stand by you shouldn't lose any work.
