Question about Whirlpool ED2FHEXN Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

Whirlpool icemaker Frank, I checked for a wiring Schematic in the back of the refrigerator but could not find one. The following #'s apply: Model #: GD5RHAXNT00 / Serial #: SS3147865. Purchased in 09/2005 from Lowes. Replaced that pump. No water in line. Line is clear via "Blow test". No water to the Ice maker, Ice maker is dry. Ice maker switch is on / the "arm" switch is in the on position. A new filter has been installed. Other then this information, I don't know what the hell can be wrong. Let me know what you find out ASAP please. I am frazzled.

Your refrigerator relies on a emitter and receiver control board to tell it when to turn on and off. this could be the problem. the guy at fixitnow.com sums it up best

  • What are the manufacturers thinking when they put out this overblown garbage? It’s as though they had a bunch of electrical engineers sitting around one day and said, “Oh, I know! Let’s design an icemaker that uses a bunch of flimsy, expensive electronics to replace a function that could be done more reliably and less expensively by a simple mechanical feeler arm!” Brilliant.

GE PTS25LHSARBB doesn't hold temps.

Have no idea who may have responded to any of your previous posts.
The defrost heater is located behind the back wall of the freezer compartment. You will have to unload the freezer and remove the icemaker to get to it. It is located at the very bottom of the cooling coils (which are officially known as the evaporator). When you remove the back wall to reveal the evaporator, in a normally operating refrigerator, you would see a light even coating of frost if the refrigerator has been running for at least 20 minutes or more.

Icemaker froze up and I want to remove it so that can thaw it out

there is 1 screw on the back right hand corner of the icemaker remove this screw then remove the wiring cover that this screw held in place. the icemaker will then slide straight out you will then unplug the icemaker at the wiring harness and be able to completely remove icemaker. thanks for using  fixYa peyton

Your unit has infered sensors on the frezzer left and right walls. There is a diagnostic test sheet brown in color in your kick plate. All you have to do is open frezzer door look on the right sensor it should blink twice followed by a 1-2 sec delay,if that is good press in flapper door on right sensor do not block path of infered beam you will not see a beam its invisable.Once you hold in flapper on right sensor the led should be solid. If solid optics are good if not solid led replace optic sensors

Try using an hairdryer or defrosting the unit completely , this often get rid of blockage caused by frozen lines fixing the problem.

The water lines can also be unblocked from dirt using a thin flexible shaft. This after defrosting.

If all that does not fix the problem, then you may need to replace the water valve, the icemaker solenoid, or the whole icemaker assembly.

Whirlpool refrigerator stopped making ice.

If there are ice cubes in the icemaker sitting there waiting to be dumped then the problem is in the icemaker. If the icemaker is dry then you have a water supply problem, even if you have a water in the door working.
1.Check the fill line inside the freezer at the icemaker, if it is clogged with ice then remove this ice and replace the water valve.

2. Check the water supply. Turn the water supply off, disconnect the water line from the Ref, turn the water back on an fill a small glass. If the water supply is good the solenoid on the water valve should be checked. This is done with an OHM meter.

Water not filling up the icemaker

it sounds as tho you do have solenoid prob.but it could also be an ice over sit at your water inlet tube that is situated near icemaker.

I changed the filter and it stopped making ice. I finally discovered that the rubber fill spout had frozen somehow. I heated the tube with my wife's hair dryer and the top of the fridge just above the tube. A pencil sized chunk of ice fell out of the tube and it started making ice again.
