Scanner was working fine until yesterday. Now when I do a preview of the
photo, the entire surface is black, or white. The phenomenon is
intermittent, but the frequency seems to be increasing. I am hoping that
you can provide me w/ some insight. Am I missing something obvious or is
the scanner kaput? This is my first scanner, I am using Vistascan32. I am
hoping that I am suffering from User Brain Failure so I do not have to deal
with tech support.
Thank you for your info.

The problem occurred while previewing and scanning. It has been working
fine for the past couple days. I believe that the problem was not with the
scanner but with the user (me) not fully understanding the significance of
changing the image settings. Thank you very much for your help.

Just some thoughts:
Be sure that none of the image settings got changed or that you are in
line art scan mode. Check gamma, contrast, etc. settings. Maybe they
got set to the far end limits by something acting up.
Does it still scan ok and only the preview is messed up? What
operating system and did anything change(added new software, hardware,
etc.) at around the time this problem started?
