dial up is not the best... but you know that. Most sites assume you have broadband these days so you cant expect too much.

Please explain what you mean by "cleaned" who did it and how?

How to maintain the speed of your desktop computer

If your computer has excellent specs then you're lucky. It is also important to note that as it ages, it can also be compared to us humans because their effectiveness and speed deteriorates. However, there are ways in which you can maintain its speed or at least make the deterioration process slower. Here are some tips that I also do with my own computer.

1. Upgrade or repair your Windows operating system. Whether you’re online or not, your PC is vulnerable to viruses esp. if you don’t Deep Freeze your drives. If you already like your OS then a repair is a better option in order to patch loopholes or performance glitches.
2. Have a fast and reliable antivirus. The one that I can recommend is the Avast because it scans really fast and you have the option to delete or move the viruses to virus vault without corrupting the programs. And update your antivirus regularly or auto-update it. You also scan your PC regularly and turn it on always. After scanning completely, you restart your PC in order to totally remove the viruses and detected threats.
3. Have as few desktop folders only. Delete or uninstall files that you don’t need and use like duplicate files. Keep/organize your personal files to drive D only. Keep the drive C just for your necessary programs.
4. Empty the Recycle Bin after deleting files.
5. Avoid using animated desktop wallpapers.
6. Stop or quite all unused applications. You just can right-click on those icons at your taskbar.
7. Clean your CPU with a blower/vacuum cleaner at least once a month and blow the dust away. It helps your CPU runs fast.
8. Upgrade or add memory. This surely makes your PC runs fast.
9. Check your PC’s ventilation. Overheating makes your PC runs slow. You can also use your electric fan in addition to your built-in computer blowers if you don’t use air-conditioner.
10. Use only fast browsers. I personally recommend Google Chrome or Safari.
11. Install ‘Cheat Engine’ and run it to any program you’d like to speed up. It makes browsing faster.

What's your problem?tower fan is always running off and on

Your computer's Processor/CPU fan is set to run faster when it is hot and slower when it is cool. That is why it get's quiet and loud. A clean may reduce the noise, by removing the dust from the computer system the fans will be able to operate more efficiently and effectively meaning that they won't have to spin as fast.

Install fans in your chassis to provide your computer system with freash air, an exhaust fan is also an idea to push warm air out of the system. Generally the larger the fan the quieter it will be, as a large fan can spin at a slower rate to provide the same airflow of a smaller unit.

Remember that it is that fan over the CPU heatsink that is keeping your computer alive. Overtime they can wear, replacing the fan is an option.

Take care!

I have a dell dimension 2400 which is getting slower and slower and slower. Have done disk clean up, defragged, etc. Plenty space unused on hard disk. Anti virus etc all up to date. Do you have any ideas?

I run into this type of complaint very often, and it's almost always caused by viruses or spyware. I would recommend that you download two free clean-up tools that are very widely used and trused.

MalwareBytes AntiMalware (MBAM)
http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php (download free version)

Super AntiSpyware Free Edition
http://superantispyware.com/ (download free edition)

Install both programs using their default settings, run their respective updates from inside the program, and then run the full scans on both. You can run both scans at the same time, they'll both take a long time to run. Expect the scans to take an hour or more depending on how slow your computer is.

When the scans are finished, you'll get a list of "infected items". Follow the instructions for cleaning and deleting them, then reboot your computer. Once it comes back up, you may want to run both scans again just for good measure. If it comes up clean the second time, you should be all better for a while.

Good luck!

Our PC is running slower and slower, do I need to erase the hard drive, and start over?

If you computer is running very slow , the first thing you can do firts if to rmeove unnecessary program that is installed to your computer to free up some memory on the computer, then if its still running slow cleaning the computer hard drive will definitely make it fast but if you're still not satisfied with the speed after cleaning the entire hard drive upgrading the RAM/memory of the computer will really make it fast...

Hope that helps...........

PC won't boot on customn built machine

Sounds your motherboard is gone, my solution to you is to remove the hard drive, place it on another computer as a secondary drive or slave and go into my computer and you will see your hard drive there as secondary ,, now you can go in to it and save your data to a disk or do a back up onto a cd. please advice.
