Re: linksys wireless g wrt54g router setup
I would check the ip addresses for the modem & the router. You can do this by typing a command line from the "Run" entry on the Start menu. At the command line type in ipconfig /all & there you will find the ip addresses. My hunch is that they are both set to 192.168.1.1 - you will need to change one of these to something like 192.168.2.1.
Try not entering any password. Is the password for the router access, internet access, or wireless access. If you do not enter one it will not require one later. Use that to get it going then you can always go back and add a password later

Are you trying to setup Linksys router? You can run the installation CD to setup Linksys router or you can do it without installation CD also. Connect the computer to the router with the Ethernet cable. Open the setup page of the router. Change the Internet connection settings. Create a new wireless network. Connect to the network.
I think you should try to reset the router to factory default settings and reconfigure it manually. Press and hold the reset button on the router for 30 seconds. Release the reset button and wait for 30 seconds. Power cycle the router and reconfigure it manually. See how to reset Linksys router See Linksys router setup
You can setup Linksys router without installation CD or software. Connect the computer to the router and open the setup page of the router. Change the Internet and wireless settings manually. I will suggest you a website on How to setup Linksys wireless router. This website may help you installing your router
You have to take a pen and hit the reset button, and hold in on it for about thirty seconds to minute. Be sure to re-secure your wireless internet after that, so your neighbors can't use it, by using a personal password. It is located under basic wireless setup on the router page. 192.168.1.100 is the default after the reset of linksys been pressed.

You will need to assign a different ip address to the Westell modem - I am assuming that both the router & modem are using the same ip address 192.168.1.1? If that is the case, then assign 192.168.1.2 to the modem.
As a wi-fi technician, it is not recommended to extend the wireless signal using another wireless router. Having 2 wireless routers will just cause conflict to your wireless network. If you still have time, please replace the router with a Wireless Access Point (WAP54G). WAP is easy to setup. Just plug it to one of the ethernet port on the back of your router and run the setup CD that came with it, that's it. It'll extend your signal.
If your main concern is just extending your wireless signal to another far place outside your house, Wireless Range Expander (WRE54G) can also be used. It is a similar device like an Access Point but its signal extending capability is more powerful than Access Point. Its also easy to setup, just the setup CD that came with it.
