Have a philips pet800 portable dvd player which won,t read dvd discs.the display shows the dvd loading then after a minute it stops and displays that there is no disc

The problem is the lens of your dvd. You will see the optical lens when you open the the dvd and put the disc. Cleaning the lens of the dvd, you must be very careful, never touch the lens with your hand,Use a cotton buds to wipe the the lens gently.

The player just keeps showing it's loading the disc but it won't open. I finally got an disc that actually opened but then when press play nothing.

Hello,

its a lens problem. Its trying to read the disc but can't because the lens is weak.

You need to replace the lens or dispose and get another player if possible.

Take care.

Wont read disks well

If Wii gives Disc Read Error, first step you need to check is to try another disc or clean the exisitng disc. This will confirm that problem is with either Wii or Disc. If the console itself is giving disc read error then it needs to be repaired. You may check out DIY Wii Fix Guide, that will show step by step information to fix the problem yourself. It also gives information on fixing many Wii Related Problems, so its a kind of Wii Problems Reference Fix Guide

Philips 642 problem

when mine has frozen up i push and hold the power/standby button for ten seconds then release then push it again and it comes on and opens as usual.  or do you mean the disc is stuck in the machine after the door opens?  maybe open the machine it could be inside.
