If they are replacing the back half of the outer tub that includes the bearings the part alone is $150.00 and the job is usually quoted at an 1 1/2 - 2 hours so depends on their labor rate and service call charge.

I have a Maytag Neptune front load washer that the tub is rubbing and is loud.

Could be the bearings . But it could also be the springs that center and hold tub in place. They weaken over time and it is not uncommon for a tub to be scraping because one of the springs is shot. When you replace one, you replace all at same time and eat your wheaties because they are hard to replace.

Loud noises during spin cycle. Drum is eating up. All springs and shocks appear to be ok

The water seal has worn out and water has gotten into the bearings. You need to call a service tech to have it repaired. It is not a cheap repair. Whirlpool has a repair that replaces the back half of outer tub and a new inner tub or basket one in the same. Another salution is replace the seal and bearings, still a lot of labor. go to utube and a guy does to an LG, but the the repair is about the same for a Duet

LG washing machine, WM 1371(6)FHB, 7 years old, sounds like main bearing on the way out. Is it economical to repair? I'm mechanically/electrically competent.

Some of the LG washers have a 10 year warranty on the motors and your issue could be fixed for free by LG if your problem is the motor.

Open the door of the washer and spin the inner tub fast and listen to find out if you hear a bearing or if it is the motor.

If the bearing is bad, labor and parts would be around $490 - $700. This is a major repair because the bearing is sold with the back half of the outter tub assy. So, you just cannot replace the bearing.

If its the motor, call LG about a posible warranty repair.

Good luck.

Making loud noise in the spin cycle and now does not spin at all

Sounds like the tub bearing is gone. Get it checked out though. It could be the pump bearing, a cheaper fix. Or as bad as the tub bearing, a motor bearing.

NOISE DURING SPIN CYCLE

You have to take the tub out, take off the rotor from the bottom of the washer, remove 4 bolts and take off the stator, take off the bearing retaining nut, then drive the 2 bearings out with a drift. I bought the bearings online for 20 bucks from a supplier (VBX). They are standard metric bearings number 6005 and 6006. I put some silicone grease on the shaft seal and drove the new bearings into place. Then reassembled, and the washer is whisper quiet.

Stops mid cycle and whirs loudly while spinning

Maytag has the bearings pressed into the outer tub which means if they fix it they have to replace the whole outer tub for $500 alone. Maytag does not have the bearings themselves listed as a part number! I know of folks who were quoted $1,000 to fix the bearings! Who in their right mind will have their Neptune fixed for $1,000?

There is a new solution to this problem. See www.neptunebearing.com where you can get a bearing and seal kit along with the Tony Tool rental. The Tony Tool is slick tool used to pull the bearings out and reinstall them. There is a video on the site so you can see it in action. It takes an hour or so to change the bearings and you don't even have to remove the outer tub! Folks had to use pipes and hammers to get the bearings out before the Tony Tool was born.
