Question about RCA RT2280 System

1 Answer

Sound (Audio) Drops Out

For about the last six months our RT 2280 system has experienced an unexplained, but growing problem with audio drop out. The system will be playing correctly using either directv tv, VCR or DVD and the sound will suddenly drop out (go silent), while the video continues. At first it occurred no more than once a day, but now it occurs regularly three to four times an hour. Ideas?

This unit is shutting down the outputs probably due to heat. There are thermal detection transistors inside that will shut off the output amp section if it gets too hot. There can be a number of reasons for this. Check the speaker wires to be sure that they are not frayed at all and that none of the strands are touching. Other than that there may be defective parts inside that are sensitive to heat.

Hook up a sony ht ct60 to a samsung flat screen

Your sound source comes from you cable/dish box. There should be an audio out (L/R) on the back. You can take the audio off the TV from those audio outputs if you have them available. Not all the box store tvs have these.

You don't say HOW the 'TV' audio is carried to the RT2500? TV's are usually the end of the chain, not a link in it. For multichannel audio you need a multichannel digital source. Is that the TV or would it be the cable/sat box? Try running a digital audio cable from one of those to the RCA.

Digital audio cable does nothing?

You need to look at the two sources that don't work for why they're not providing surround.

HINT: It is the rare TV that can provide surround. Video is a TV's strong suit, not Audio. TV's are usually at the end of the audio chain, not the beginning.

TV-related audio always come from somewhere else than the TV, so get it from the source, not the TV.

Connecting PC to the Philips HTS3455

Hum first,,, anytime you have 2 devices with sound running to a cable or ant equipted TV you will get a hum as they are grounded off curcuit. HumEliminator (radio shack). You didn't tell us if your PC had been enabled in control panel for either device. I have had no luck using the rear aduio output on any computer. Front headphone jack on PC does not need enabled and will work better for this. Unless you use a USC codet interface which is better yet for CD quality in sound. Also make sure the Aux inout is enabled on TV as well. Direct Input would be the same. Lastly,,you are 100% positive the backside is input and not actually out put or gaming inputs.

Hooking up the RT 2600

connect all the devices into the receiver inputs then there should be 1 set of outputs to the tv. This is to play everything using surround sound as all the video and audio is going through your recevier... if you want to do HD and have surround sound you will need a new receiver as this one has no hdmi inputs or outputs.

No sound from the reciever

Plug in your headphone, if you hear music then it could be the speaker's fuse blown up, or the speaker's circuit breaker shut down. If nothing sound then possibly the strong static has burned down the audio/receiver's circuitry section.
