I had the same problem when I pushed the wrong button and didn't know which button I had pushed. The Date and Time just blinked. I could change them with the clock buttons. Then I really got frustrated. I saw the display button. I pushed it. It seemed that nothing had happened. Then I pushed it again, and part of the display disappeared. So, I pushed it again and yeah!! the whole display disappeared. So, try pushing the display button enough times to get the display to disappear. You have waited a long time for an answer. I hope you got one before today, 5-18-2009. I am not an expert, and I have no manual. But, I found a way to get rid of the display. I'll try to not push the display button again if I don't really need it. I think that you have to cancel the display before you record. I don't think it can be taken out of the playback.

How do I get rid of counters and all info onscreen during playback? I am trying to transfer the old vhs-c tapes to my computer.

I'm having this same problem--did you ever figure this out? We are trying to get the time counter off of the screen in order to transfer the footage to the computer w/out the counter appearing. It seems possible because we can reset the time, but we've not yet figured out how to make it disappear. Any help/ideas are appreciated!! Time is of the essence. Thank you!!!

I will turn the dvd player on and it will display "Hello" then will turn off immediately and say "Goodbye". Whats the problem?

Wild guess. Try covering the Infrared Sensor first. Maybe it sees something in the IR band that makes it think it's being told to turn off.

Displays file error message when trying to playback still images and video footage

Did you take the card and insert into computer/device to view photos?

Viewing photos can alter the format of the photos thereby preventing your camera from reading them.

I viewed some photos and rotated a few photos and my camera no longer recognizes the format.

good luck

File numbers not displayed on screen

This may be a very simple problem.

Set the function dial to playback (the box with an arrow inside).

Adjacent to the top right of the LCD screen is a button with a graphic next to it of a box with two vertical lines either side. Each time you press it it alters the amount of onscreen display information and it can also turn off the screen to save battery life The latter is useless in playback mode, but very useful when taking photos if you always use the optical viewfinder as I do.
