Does anyone know where I can get a red tube for this model of TV? Sears won't replace it (they say no parts are available), so they're giving me credit for a new one, but I hate to get rid of it since it's performed flawlessly for 5 years. It only failed 2 weeks after I had them come out and clean it for the first time under the extended warranty (go figure!).

This is a CRT(cathode ray tube) not a bulb. A Bulb is totally different. If you replace one Tube, you need to replace all 3 or the colors will never match properly. However, This model no longer has parts available. Even if they were, the cost would be close to $1000 in parts. I would not recommend repairing this TV.
Toshiba 36A10 36" TV is the model you have indicated---
If the screen is all red and or too bright (no green or blue can be seen) the problem is in one of two places: Either a shorted picture tube or the board that plugs onto the end of the tube.
That board sends red, green, and blue video and information to the picture tube via 3 pins on the tube (the K or cathode for each).
The set will have either 3 IC's on that board or 3 transistors, or a single larger IC for this.
to troubleshoot this:
I would locate the Red Cathode and unsolder that pin at the socket on that board--takes red out---if you have green and blue picture then---it is either the IC/transistor that feeds that on the board or the tube itself.
If it has 3 chips (usually will each have a metal plate attached for cooling) you can either remove and replace the red one OR what I do is swap it with the green or blue chip---if suddenly you now have a blue or green only screen you know that part is bad--simple as that.
If for any reason the picture tube turns out to be bad--you are finished and so is the set= way too expensive to replace it.
Hi,thats could from your convergence color ic call stk
;you may need to replaced before looking for the tube thats may just an ajustement on tube screen control beware for high voltage
that is depend how old is the tv and the number of hour it play a day....
hope that will help
if it is a tube type unit you may not find a new tube they are almost extinct ,
also, most tube malfunctions are caused by improper voltage, only a qualified tech should work on the high voltage section of a tube tv,,, it can kill you even if it has Not Been Plugged in for a whole year
re-post with the make and model number for further assistance
Yes the puddle is related to the Blue CRT coolant leaking. You are most likely going to need a new Blue CRT drive circuit board and quite possibly a new Blue CRT if the CRT got too hot from not haveing a sufficent supply of coolant. You can get replacement CRT drives and CRts at the following link. http://servicemanuals.vstore.ca/
IF THE SCREEN IS ALL RED WITH VIDEO VISIBLE AND RETRACE LINES. ADJUST SCREEN CONTROL IN THE FRONT FOR THE RED TUBE ONLY. TURN CONTROL COUNTER CLOCKWISE. IF THAT DOESNT DO IT THE TUBE CAN BE REJUVINATED.
You dont need a new tube. What you need is to repair the seal on your old tube and replace the CRT coolant fluid. There is a coolant chamber attached to the tube with long bolts with springs on them that contains coolant to prevent your tubes from getting hot. Yours may just need tightening, but I would replace the seal just to be safe as thecoolant can and will destroy your circuit board if its allowed to continue to leak on it.
Toshibas are notorious for developing shorts in the inernal guns of the picture tube. In your case the green gun is shorted to G1. The noise you heard was an internal arc between the elements.
It is unfortunate however, the repair of this problem usually requires the picture tube to be replaced. Sometimes a savvy technician with sencore picture tube rejuvenator can remove the short. This however usually does not last. Scrivitron
