Volume levels vary for no apparent reason. From normal to quiet and back at what seems to be random time intervals. No jiggling of any wires makes a difference. The speakers are old and I'm wondering if they are just dying.
They are the Cambridge SoundWorks Four Point Surround speakers with a sub wolfer that is connected to my computer.
No driver problems. Have 2 sound cards and tried them both and when it works its perfect but for some reason the sound level just decreases by 50% for few minutes and then it goes back to working properly.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If you are using it to watch cable TV stations, They may have different audio levels between programming. Also you want to check and not use dolby when atching standard TV channels
Thank you for your response. However the same problem exists whether you are watching tv, videos, movies, music, et cetera. The headphones work still.Thank you for your response. Plug a set of headphones into the EFFECTS SEND jack... only one side will have sound... now see if the level varies at that point... Note that the soumd will not be too loud and only in one ear... but we are wanting to find out if it varies at this point.
you have to make sure you increased the volume on the computer itself.go to the control panel and click on sound, speech and audio devices.change the volume settings and speaker settings.this should bring about the desired result.
first make sure there is nothing blocking the eye beams on eack side of the floor. like bugs spiders cob webs all can trigger it. wiggle them and make sure the eyes line up so that you receive a green light, if all ok try this, get a ladder and on the back side there is adjustment screw try to adjust the up and down pressure.
it's you power from the battery/alternator, it's not supplying enough power to kick it on, if you turn the volume down you'll notice that it'll stay on. You may need to re adjust the settings on your amp or get a bigger alternator, maybe even install a second battery.
