I have talked with customer service in reference to my television lamp going out after only having it just over a year. He told me that this lamp is on back order due to a high volume this brand TV having lamps to blow and in need of replacing. I am very disappointed since it is clearly a Hitachi problem and should not cost me $260 to replace my lamp.

I have this exact same problem, and am disappointed with Hitachi's lack of responsibility to issue a recall or some sort or re-embursement. This T.V is only 2 years old. When I purchase my plasma T.V, I will not consider a Hitachi product or recommend it to others.

Christmas eve, heard a pop and lights on the front starting blinking red. Manual suggests light out. TV will be 2yrs old in February.

I have the same problem. When I light my tv, it émits a noise and after a few seconds, the red light of the lamp and the temp ignite. I bought my tv there is less than two years.

We have the Hitachi 55VS69 55 in. HDTV LCD rear projection TV and the lamp failed in 1 year and 11 months. The lamp is rated for 6000 hours. That means we should have had the TV on for about 8.5 hours every day for that 23 month period. This is probably not the case. The lamp design and or cooling system are not up to par. Hitachi should be making amends with its customers or they will shop elsewhere in the future.

Yes, mine just started doing the same thing to me today. I purchased this TV in September of 2007.

  • Anonymous Mar 12, 2009

Same thing for me. Lamp lights up, fan works great, but at about 21 months after purchase, the TEMP and LAMP lights flash red and the T.V. shuts off momentarily. This happens after about every hour of use.

While watching TV, Set went Black . Turned on, just got the power on light along with the temp and lamp lights flashing.Won't start up at all. I have only had it for 1 and a half yrs.

I had this same problem over the summer, I had my TV for two years before it went out. You need a new lamp. The lamp is not hard to replace on your own. However, you MUST make sure that you do not touch the lamp (the bulb part) in anyway. If you do your new lamp will not last as long. You can order the lamps online. They range anywhere from 150-300 dollars online. However, I found a TV repair company in my city that only charged me 100.00 for the lamp and they told me If I took out the box that holds the lamp they would replace the lamp for me. They also gave me a 1 yr warrantee on the lamp. All I had to do was un-screw the box from the back of the TV take the box to the TV repair company and I placed the box back into my TV. My TV works. While going through this process, I learned that these lamps go out all the time, the more you watch the TV the more often you'll replace the lamp. I was told from the repair company it could be as often as every year. The Lamp does have MURCURY in it so if you replace the lamp on your own be careful and have it recycled. If you live in SLC UT the repair company I went though was Village TV Sales and Service.

The temp light will blink if the fan stops turning. The lamp light will blink if the lamp door is not closed completely. Check to be sure that the fan is turning and that the vent area is clean. Also, double check to be sure that the lamp access door is completely closed. There are safety interlock switches that will prevent the set from working if these access areas are open.

If the fan turns freely and the area is clear, try replacing the lamp. A bad lamp can sometimes cause odd symptoms.

Some or all of the parts listed below may be needed:

UX25951 - LC57/F/67 Lamp asy $254.27
PH37491 - Lamp Door $ 3.87
PH37481 - Lamp Guide $ 14.69

All can be obtained from tritronicsinc.com

If you bought the TV last year and is less then a year old, still under manufacturers warranty.
I would suggest to call the vendor or manufacturer if that is your case.
If no warranty, you have to replace the lamp and possibly the color wheel because of the Buzzing sound but you will only know that until the lamp is replace.

Okay, so last night my Hitachi 55vs69a starting shutting itself off. I could turn it back on after a few minutes and within an hour or less it would shut off again. This morning it will not turn on at all....

If you bought a cheap non Hitachi lamp that could be bad and look fine.

I would remove the lamp and look at it and reinstall it making sure it is in properly----what was wrong with the old lamp? Did it still work at all?

I need both panels of the screen for a Hitachi 55VS69A. I don't really want to pay that much if possible.

You can find a new OEM Hitachi replacement lenticular screen and Fresnal screen (availble together as the screen assembly) for a model # 55VS69A from a major Hitachi distributor at the following links:

Hitachi 55VS69A Replacement Part Screen Assembly (Fresnal Screen w/ Lenticular Screen)

And here's a link for the protection screen if needed:

I have what seems to be the common light engine problem with our 55VS69A Hitachi TV. I need to contact Hitachi. Do you have the #?

Hitachi's Service Hotline number is 1-800-448-2244 (1800-HITACHI). They do not sell parts direct but can give you all the information for local servicing and authorized parts dealers.

Now if anyone knows the exact part number for the "light engine" in the 55VS69A, we might get once step closer to a solution for this common problem. Anyone?

Hitachi ultravision

If it's a DLP, you can try that first. With the volume turned all the way down, in the rear of the set close to where the lamp is, (with the set on) listen to hear if there is a buzzzing sound, if there is then chances are it is the lamp. The buzzing sound you may hear is the lamp inverter power supply trying to start the lamp of which it can't.
