Trying to start the GPS without the SD card

Hi! I have tried to start the GPS without the SD card. I have taken the SD card out, turned the power on, and it returns to the same menu with Multimedia and Settings without the SD card. It does the same thing with the SD card in. I am beginning to wonder if maybe the problem is with the SD card. I think that maybe I should try to purchase a new SD card. But I really don't want to have to pay any money to fix it, unless it is absolutely necessary and I know for sure that it will fix the problem. What do you think I should do?

How do you save start up files and maps from a SD card to a computer for reinstall if card is corupted?

There are programs designed to try recover flash memory but in my experience they are hit and miss in what they do.

Many gps devices will start up WITHOUT the sd card

If it does that is the time to BACKUP the device.

You may well have lost what was on the SD card but if you have a backup from an earlier point where you had an sd card in the gps you can reformat the card and start again from there by restoring.

Will not let me listen to music stored on sd card

Hi, how dit you format the SD card. It should be formatted as Fat32 before you store music on it. If the card does not showup in the browser there is an issue with the format. In some instances the card could be incompatible with the zumo. So format it first (Fat32), copy some mp3 files to it (id use 128 kbps mp3's to start off with) plug it in and see what happens. If nothing, try a different brand/size card. I use 4GB SDHC card made bij sandisk without issues.

TT Home does not recognise connection

You definitely need software and maps on an SD card. The TOMTOM will not work without a card inserted. The card will contain MAPS , Map authorisation codes ( to show they are genuine TOMTOM maps bought and paid for ) , POI ( points of interest ), GPS fix data , voices ( for spoken navigation ) etc etc etc. ....................
PLEASE NOTE , TRYING A CARD FROM ANOTHER TOMTOM is very unlikely to work. Each card has an authorisation code that is generated via an algorithm inside each TOMTOM and is device specific.
However , trying a card from another tomtom might produce a diferrent result but still not work , at least this might prove that the tomtom is working OK before you rush out and buy a tomtom card.
