Check the settings control panel, power options to make sure the setting is not engage to power saving after "minutes" if it is change to the require time or disable, then apply the settings and exit. if this is not the problem, the other most common problem with these emachines and random and frequent unplanned shutdowns is a the motherboard itself. My screen turns off and on... stays off for several seconds and thens turns back on... does this several times, then wont turn back on until I unplug the power cord and replug.??? Unit is about 1.5 yrs...

Before we start taking things apart, lets try your simple remove power plug routine and power system back up. Also, please try your unit on a few different channels to see if your problem continues on each channel. Your Main Board, Power Board, T-Control Board are suspected problems at this time. Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds, the unit should power down by itself after you have powered it on. If it does not, then do not be concerned. Let me know if the problem continues. The first link below will bring you directly to the troubleshooting guide if you need to continue forward with the same error. Sounds like you need to boot up in VGA mode instead of Safe Mode

Step 1. Power Down your computer.

Step 2. Powwer on your computer and press F8 to enter Safe Mode

Step 3. Instead of selecting Safe Mode, Select VGA mode.

Step 4. Once in Windows, uninstall your graphics card for your Monitor.

Step 5. Restart your machine, when you log back in Windows will reinstall the drivers for your monitor.

You may try the following steps:

Boot the computer in safe mode.
While booting press the F8 key and on the Windows Advance boot screen, select safe mode and press enter.
Once you are on the logon screen, select Administrator account.
Click on Start and rightl click on My computer, then click properties
Go to hardware tab and click on Device manager.
In the device manager look for Display adapter, Click on the + sign, right click on the listed devices and uninstall.
Now you should be able to boot the computer in normal mode.

PC monitor has blue USER MODE box that flashes and cannot get rid of it

The blue screen of death is incredibly frustrating. Windowsmag-glass_10x10.gif gives you an option called Safe Mode for whenever there is an internal Windows problem on your PC that needs to be resolved such as the blue screen of death or the display driver setting resolution is so low that you cannot navigate through Windows to alter the settings to a higher resolution. Safe mode allows the user to fix problems without these problems loading up.
  1. tep 1 Reboot your PC. If you can't restart normally by going to the start up menu, then hold in the power button for a few minutes. If you need to enter safe mode but can restart normally, do so.
  2. Step 2 After the hard drivemag-glass_10x10.gif mounts but BEFORE Windows starts to load, Press the F8 key repeatedly on your keyboard. If you do not get the menu with the safe mode option, then you did not begin tapping F8 soon enough. Try again.
  3. Step 3 There will be a menu that will appear. Select Safe Mode. Once you are in safe mode, you can fix what needs to be fixed without the problems loading up on your machine.

Monitor goes blurry, colours/pixels start shaking across screen

Do you have your screen saver enabled, i so turn it off and se if it still does it. Secondly boot your pc in safe mode(pressing F8) on boot up and select start windows in safe mode. See if the monitor still does it, if so a monitor fault or loose/faulty vga lead. If it is ok then your graphics driver may be corrupt and need re installing.
