Check the settings control panel, power options to make sure the setting is not engage to power saving after "minutes" if it is change to the require time or disable, then apply the settings and exit. if this is not the problem, the other most common problem with these emachines and random and frequent unplanned shutdowns is a the motherboard itself. I just have a OPTIPLEX SX280 and try to connect to my old montor (VGA), when I turn on power it seem run starting but the it show up on monitor screen "can not display video mode". What is that...

When you first power on the computer tap the <F8> key to bring you to a menu that has the option of running in safe mode. If the computer boots up in safe mode and you are able to see the display on your monitor then your current video drivers are not supported for the old monitor.

I just got a monitor, samsung LS19GSESS/Xaa from my friend cause he got a new 22" . However when i tried it on my computer it doesn't work. So when i plug the monitor onto my video card, 5770 brand...

what you are seeing is the monior test and adjust features. If your old monitor worked then the computer is not at fault. Try this: Boot up your computer and while doing so continually press the f8 key, ever second or so, don't hold it down, just keep pressing it. eventually (if the monitor works) a screen will pop up (assuming windows operating system). when and if you see this screen choose the option "start windows in SAFE mode" if this works just wait till it boots up. After it boots up and tells you its in safe mode, right click somewhere on the screen and choose either "screen resolution: (if windows 7) or "settings if windows XP. change the screen resoltion to the lower choice 800 X 600 Or somethign close to this. Now reboot again in normal mode. if the monitor now works you can go through the process again to set the resoltuion higher, 1280 by ? or something. let me know if it works.

My husband's e-machine T2882 began to make jittery noises the light on the front flashes as does the monitor with a ticking sounds then nothing happens. You can't get it to turn on. We've rebooted shut...

If there's a ticking sound, its probably your hard drive giving out. You have to read what comes on the screen for clues but .....................

You could try booting into safe mode (press the F8 key while booting several times) and completing a system restore. (Start - All programes - Accessories - System Tools - System restore) to a date when it last worked.

If you can't get to the safe mode, then, as its 7 years old, its probably time to treat yourself to a new one.

Monitor keeps glitching. right side of screen completely black. is there a way to reset the monitor

Hi

Thank you for your query

If your monitor is black on the right hand side, this indicates that the LCD screen may be burned out

Please try the following

1) Switch on Laptop
2) Continuously press the F8 key until a start up menu presents itslef
3) Choose safe mode
4) Oncein safe mode look at the screen, i believe it will be the same

If so you will need to book the laptop in as part of the screen has burnt out

If this has been useful please leave postive feedback/vote/testimonial - Thank You Again

Screen goes black. the power light is on, but the picture goes out. if i turn the power off, then on again it comes back for about 5 seconds, then goes black again.

Check to see if this problem follows in safe mode. Reboot and when the Dell splash screen comes up tap F8 until you see the multiboot options. Scroll to "safe Mode with Networking" let the machine boot up and see if you have a screen. If you do, right click on the desktop and set the resolution to 800 X600 and reboot normally. Usually when a screen goes blank in normal mode but shows up in safe mode means you have an incompatible resolution for the monitor or graphics adapter. This may be a driver issue or hardware. If the screen boots up in normal mode at the lower resolution, then try and go to properties again and bump the resolution up a bit, if it blanks again, try to go online and update the driver for the graphics chip.
