I've had my FEX831CS for several years and since last year, the washer makes a noise like elephants stampeding through the jungle. I had someone come out and look at it but he couldn't find anything broken.
And the dryer now takes up to five cycles to dry a load of laundry. The vent is clean, the dryer is up against the wall and vents right out to the outside, and there is heat (at least in the front part of dryer).
Help!
If vent is clean, did you push it too far back afterward and flatten vent hose? also blower fan may be loose on motor shaft resulting in slower rpm also may be excess lint in blower housing ..washer suspect lower bearing although not sure what a stampeding herd of elephants would sound like ..if noise is on spin if during agitation suspect transmission gears ..both will require new transmission ..if noise is more of a knocking noise possible broken bolt in basket trunion block remove agitator to ck
Hello uucyc1 - From what you have described it sounds like you either have a problem with the washer tub bearing, belt, motor or trunnion (steel bar that secures the inner basket to the transmission shaft). As far as the dryer, long dry times typically are a result of poor air flow. Make sure that the dryer exhaust vent is completely clear and that the unit is not overloaded. I would suggest contacting an experiencing service technician to determine the precise cause to both units.

I did not touch the vent hose. I peeked in from the outside and it was clean, and peered down below the lint screen and it was also fairly clean.
AFA the elephants, it sounds like constant loud drumming, assumably during the spin cycle. How much does a transmission cost?
