Dell optiplex GX620 desktop has an ethernet port on it, that is not an adapter, I cannot connect to the internet, I downloaded and installed a driver for a wireless ethernet adapter, but that has not...

Okay,..........

1) You can download a wireless Ethernet adapter driver all day, but if you Do Not have a wireless adapter card installed in your computer, the drivers do you no good.

Or if you do not have a wireless USB adapter plugged into a USB port.

Example of a wireless adapter card,

Example of a wireless USB device,

Example of an Ethernet adapter card,

If you are just going to hardwire the computer, just buy an Ethernet adapter card, (PCI version), and install it in your computer, (On the motherboard), in any available white PCI slot.

IF it is the Mini Tower model.

The Desktop, Small Form Factor (SFF), and Ultra Small Form Factor (SFF) computers, are too small in width for a regular size Ethernet adapter card.

They need a Low-Profile Ethernet adapter card,

This is for a Dell Optiplex GX620 Mini-Tower computer,

Scroll the page down until you come to the bold blue heading - System Board Components

16 and 17 point to two PCI slots.
This is where an Ethernet adapter card that is the PCI version, will plug into.

PCI slots are White in color.

If you do decide to go wireless;

1) Wireless networking operates at half of the speed of wired networking.

A computer that is wired directly to an Ethernet adapter card, is twice as fast on the internet, as a computer that is connected wireless.

2) Make sure your Router is capable of wireless.
Make sure the wireless router has a built-in Modem, or that you have a separate Modem.

[ For DSL.
Phone line connects to Filter. Filter has a place for a telephone cable, and an Ethernet cable.
Ethernet cable connects to Filter, and other end connects to Modem.
Ethernet cable goes from Modem to Wireless router that does not have a built-in Modem.

OR,
Phone line connects to Filter. Ethernet cable from Filter goes directly to wireless router, that has a built-in Modem.

Computer has to have a USB wireless device, or a wireless adapter card, installed.

Desk top is an other room next to wireless router and it has trouble connecting will connect for just afew minutes and then it will boot me off

What kind of desktop are we talking about, it may be your wireless network adapter or its drivers, go into your control panel, go to your networks and troubleshoot it. If you can select the option diagnose and repair, if it says its your drivers then you can choose the automatic driver update option and it will try to find it for you, or you can do a quick search online and find and install the drivers. I

If that doesnt work then it must be your router, make sure all connections are in place and snug, check wires for signs of wear and tear. Do a search of your router make and model and see if anyone else is having those problems and they have a solution. Thats really all I can do without knowing the makes and models of both your desktop, your wireless network adapter, and your router.

Hope this helped.

Can i use Bluetooth USB Adapter to connect PC to wireless router?I purchased a new PC that's connected to a wireless router for internet. I want to connect my old PC to the same wireless router. I don't...

Hi, to connect your computer to the wireless network of the router you need to have a wireless adapter. The bluetooth adapter will not work in this case as the router does not communicate with the bluetooth signals.

Purchase a wireless adapter like NETGEAR WG111

Rate it, if it helps.

Make sure that the wireless settings set in the Netgear router are properly configured in the computer. Check the wireless adapter status from Device Manager and see to it that it is working properly.

I just bought a Linksys router WRT150N this evening. I have a Dell router that is problematic. My modem and existing router are on one side of the house , my Dell desktop on the other with "no"...

If you have an extra PCI slot on your PC, you can purchase a wireless card for it, and it is fairly simple to install. You can also purchase USB based wireless adapters for your desktop. This also assumes that the router and the PC are not too far apart, but as long as you could get a signal using say a laptop, you should also be able to get it using the PCI or USB adapter.

Good Luck,

James
