Initializing picture cards for Fuji FinePix S9000 digital camera
I just need to know how to initialize a picture card for my Fuji FinePix S9000 camera. I downloaded my pictures onto my computer and when I put the card in the camera a message says I need to initialize the card. Of course, I can't find my instruction book that came with the camera!

As you have downloaded all the pics to ur computer. Take the card in ur hand, wipe it's copper plates firmly with your thumb, Insert the card in your camera and format it. It should start working. Mine worked.Good Luck

I've bought a SanDisk ExtremeIII 4GB CFI card. Ofcourse, at the beginig nothing worked. Camera format command worked neither (initializing problem,...). I then formated my card through a car reader on fat16 and now everything works. Just make this command: format <volume>: /FS:FAT. After checking and formathing the card, you will be asked to go on by 64K size of cluster. say Yes.
The S3000 has a 512MB limit according to Fuji. Ther is also no firmware upgrade to address this issue. However I loaded a 1GB Olympus M type card into th S3000, which was pre-fornatted and worked straight away. After putting the card into the reader in my laptop, and then returning to the camera, the camera identified the card as not initialized. I tried to format the card in the camera but this didn't work.
To fix this I connected the camera to the computer using the USB cable located the camera card via My Computer, left clicked on and did a quick format in FAT (FAT16). After this the camera read the card and indicated 1305 frames available at 3M.
Initializing (or formatting) the card, by definition, removes all data (this includes pictures) from the card. When formatting a memory card, by all practical purposes you are making it blank. Hope this helps.
What type of memory card are you using? Is this a new problem since you've started using a new memory card?
The A330 can't use some of the newer types of xD cards. These have letters before the file size like "H512mb" or "M1gb".
You can only use plain xD cards with no letter in front, like the small 8mb or 16mb card that came with the camera.
Or, you can download a firmware upgrade to us type "M" xD cards.
Read about that here:
Or, if a new memory card is likely not the problem, you could try re-initializing the card. Make sure to copy any pictures from the card onto your computer first. Re-initializing will erase all data from the card.
In the Menu, use the right button to go over to "Set". Arrow up to choose "Set-up". Then arrow down on the "1" screen to "Format". It will step you through reformatting the card.
Hope this helps,
You will lose all of the pics on your card but you need to reformat the card from your camera I tried reformatting it using the computer and rthe camera was still displaying the card error message but one I reformatted using the camera it went back to normal.
